I wonder how many Americans at home feel safe from our own sectarian violence and terrorism?

I wonder if we think about the 32% who are happier. Remember the groups who were hurt during Sadam's reign? A nation so committed to aiding the oppressed, we sure think negatively on this survey. Why?

Your poll is brokenMar 19th, 2007 - 17:08:54

A poll by the British organization ORB shows
49% saying they are better off now.

Maybe you published an article about the poll you wanted
to happen, not the one that really happened?

What's the percentage of Iraqis that know that 85% of the media is Democrats.

I just heard a poll stating that the majority of Iraqi's say their lives are better off now than before the American invasion. Who are we to believe?

Each political party has it's own set of statistics which push their own agenda.
I choose to ignore them both, pray for those who are suffering, and watch a movie.

Its interesting you did not show or report ALL poll results, some of which widely dispute this story. I have no respect for that kind of reporting or journalism..this is why reporters/news agencies have little credibility these days.

The poll is DESIGNED for it's outcome. That is why it was done. It is factory-style, manufactured slant journalism. You weight the poll for it's outcome and then report it as fact, which, technically, it is. Me, of all people, do NOT question the results, exactly because they were designed to produce the end result.

You can make anyone say what you want in a poll. You cannot make people vote the way you want. The question should be asked is this: why is Hillary saying we 'still need a presence' in Iraq anfter we 'pull out'?

I would surmise that her own internal polls tell her she can't get the 8 to 10 million voters, who actually determine an election, to commit without saying this.

These are the only polls that matter.

Polls SchmollsMar 19th, 2007 - 18:30:38

Who were the people polled in this sampling and how were the people in this poll sampled and where was this poll conducted? As I noticed in previous posts, polls really cannot be trusted since statistics can manipulated easily to support any variety of causes. One must think for one's self. Whether the average Iraqi feels they are better off or worse off now is really not that important. What is important is that, since Coalition Boot #1 touched Iraqi soil, the Iraqis now have a choice and a chance for a better life, nation, and society than any other time in the past and certainly that includes time spent laboring under Sadaam. The ball has always been in their court, so to speak.

Sure their life style has gone down and they feel less safe. A man (King george bush) invades your country and lets his nations citizens be murdered so he can personally profit from it? I would be scared for my life too. As long as george can make a dime from the death of American soldiers we will continue to terrorize the Middle East. Remember this is a man who hid from war when he had to personally go himself. Hiding back in texas doing coke and drinking Jack Daniels while failing to show up at a job he cried to his daddy for. King george makes me ashamed to call myself an American. With any luck a call for his impeachment will come soon... that will end the war on terror!

Jay, What is your plan to talk Muslim extremists out of mass murdering innocent civilians and American troops with IED's and car bombs?

You seem to forget that they have declared war on the US and Israel, we are only defending ourselves and our families. Would you prefer to see more bombings akin to 9/11?

Americans would only look more selfish, self centered and greedy if we were to pull up stakes and hightail it out of Iraq, saying 'you're all on your own, were outta here'.

On the other hand, if you have a full proof plan to make progress in Iraq that doesn't include an American defeat followed by mass genocide of innocents by Muslim extremists, please contact out top military generals and clue them in on it immediately, if you can stop being paranoid and defeatist long enough to use a phone.

As someone currently stationed in Iraq, I'd have to say this poll is slanted. I work outside the wire and have had plenty of people eager to speak with me and more than glad to see us show up. Is there opposition? Absolutely. Are there problems? You better believe it. But would they rather go back to the era of Saddam? No, that seems to be extraordinarily unlikely.

RE TLMyers:

I believe the US is a little more responsble for the 'mass genocide', as you put it, of Muslims. I think you have your story turned around a bit.

Do you seriously believe in what you are saying, or are you just ignorant?! Yes, Saddam was a dictator of sorts but he gave his people basics to surve: good, power, education, infastructure. If you think these are all the same right now after the US invasion you are very wrong. Millions of refugees, no power, water, jobs, sounds like a receipe for destruction......More violence recorded in Iraq now than under Saddam, go figure!?! The Iraqis just love their liberties and freedom the US 'gave' them, fantastic!

Well... except for the mustard gas and the mass graves.

I guess if you didn't end up in a mass grave then you had no qualms with Sadaam?

These polls are not true and I would like to see a citation as to who did the survey and when. Listing off a few major media broadcasters who might have paid for this survey is not a citation. I know for a fact that the majority of Iraqis want US forces there because as long as the US is there, so is the US money. Prosperity drives democracy, if people can win out monetarily or socially, the people will support that cause. Right now, US forces are not just patrolling the streets looking for suspicious looking Middle Easterners. I know a SFC in the Army Armor corps. who spent 2 tours in Iraq. 95% of the work they did was building schools and digging wells. The Iraqi people are not going to turn down clean water and education for their children. The Iraqi people profit from the US military presence, and thus want the US to stay there.

Of course Iraqis feel unsafe. They are more than willing to hide their 'clansmen' who commit murder, but cry when someone else returns the favor. The US was 100% right to invade Iraq and remove their 'government' of terror. What went wrong was that it was assumed that Iraqis were civilized people rather than muslims. It was wrong to think they wanted a fair government, when they just want to line their own pockets. They blow up power and water staions then complain they have no power or water. The US should pull out today, and let Iraqis kill each other. The Kurds should be given their own territory, so they can remove themselves from the stench of the Sunnis and Shiites.

Surge is working?Mar 20th, 2007 - 21:01:06

It's only been a couple of weeeks, come on! I agree the data should wait a little more to give a better assesstment of the disaster. There have been reported less 'random killings' by militias, but bombings still are very very common. This is part of cracking down on security as well, don't forget that pollers!

I want to see an honest survey of the country's infastructure. What is being built, who is messing things up, and what funds are going where. So much money has been 'lost' that it's scary to think Congress will give billions more without transparency of what the hell the money is doing.
