What is the source of this piece? A quick search on Yahoo and Google failed to
turn up any similar reference to this item.

I would tend to think this would be a major news item if it was possible to verify
above the level of unsubstantiated rumor. Aside from the media's tendency to under
report Israeli atrocities, world wide, there should be at least a few corroborating
stories on something with these kind of implications.

Where are they?

Yes Don, this will go down in history as the war crime to end all war crimes. The 'suspicious green ballooning' of Tyre... Has anyone alerted amnesty international? What does George Soros think of these suspicious green balloon atrocities? Never mind that another country in the is working to wipe Israel off the map, we have these suspicious green balloons to cover, which are undoubtedly another 'under
reported Israeli atrocity!'

Just think of the 'implications' of these suspicious green balloons!

Ah, another uninformed soul who likes to spout off things heard (repeatedly) even though there is no substantiation for it.

NO leader has said that they are looking to 'wipe Israel from the map'. That's a fact, deal with it.

Lebanese troops cordoned off the area around the coast of Tyre and prevented people from touching the 'suspicious balloons' after reports indicated that some people were poisoned when they did.

When u read the comments on this story its mind boggling----i am sure dropping a daisy on israel would be provocation for nuclear retaliation--but the posters downplay it as if it were nothing----all i can say is those people are going to be well deserving of whatever they bring upon themselves. First of all what possible excuse is there for the state of israel to fly in lebanese airspace illegally and then drop shit from their planes ??? Only a moron wouldn't see this as sandbox provocation by the weasels who like to start things but run when the going gets hot.......

Poison green ballons. Well, that is the kind of high tech weaponry Israel is known for. Yes getting a few people neauseated is probably part of Israel's strategic plan. Rubbish is right on. Further, as to the overflights, the UN and the Lebanese Army have done nothing, and I mean nothing to stop the rearming and repositioning of Hezbollah in the south. They are laying low for now, but are in gross violation of the cease fire terms. The Israeli overflights are for the purpose of monitoring the rearming and repositioning by Hezbollah in preperation for the next round, probably coming soon.

WRONG........

Forgive the cut and paste here dear reader:

The quote was: “the Zionist regime soon be wiped out,”

According to Reuters, no friend to the Bush administration:

“We actually had access to this speech, and heard the president’s words verbatim from our own TV footage. We stand behind our translation. In this case, he used the word “mahv,” which in Farsi means “wiped off”….”

“Our dear Imam [Khomeini] said that the occupying regime must be wiped off the map and this was a very wise statement.”

“(Israel’s) destruction is a must for all governments and nations of Islam.”

As an American citizen, I'm sickened by Israeli's and Zionist Jews. I agree with the posts that Israel likes to start stuff, but runs and hides. The Israeli record of staging false flag operations to draw the U.S. in to it's wars is irrefutable. Examples include the U.S.S. Liberty, the King David hotel and quite probably 9/11. In any event the time has come to cut off funding for these so called AsheKenazi Jews, eliminate their influence in American politcs, beginning with the complete dismantling of the AIPAC, and begin dialog with ther middle-eastern countries. After all, American only cares about the oil. We could care less about Jews or for that matter Moslems. It's the oil we care about and need. The way I see it, Israel stands in the way of America's ability to live peacefully with the rest of the world.

Furthermore, the power base in Israel aren't even really Jewish nor are they semitic. They are Ashekenazi, mostly Polish. We are warned of fictitious Jews by the bible. You see conversion to Judaism is not recognized. Your mother has to be Jewish. Yet, the Ashekenazi are converts, while Sephardic Jews are the true biblical Jews.

It's time to cut the ties to this genocidal, hypocritical and fake group of barbarians called Israelis.

The Israeli govt. is cowardly filth. They can not fight face to face with real men, but must air drop on innocent civilians from a distance. When confronted and fought by real warriors like Hezbollah and those aboard the USS Liberty, they run like cowardly rancid vermin.

'Hezbollah and those aboard the USS Liberty,'

Don't compare the Sailors on USS Liberty to Hezbollah. Hezbollah are cowardly terrorists who launch missiles from hospitals and schools, they hide among civilians and draw fire, they are reprehensible thugs who work to subvert democracy at the will of Iran. Hezbollah are scum who have brought ruin to Lebanon.

The Zionists are a cunning and evil lot. So are Bush & Assoc.. Read Benjamin Freedman, a defector - the chosen one- the enlightened one.
Below is an excerpt from his speech.

The Amazing Warnings
Of Benjamin Freedman
A Jewish Defector Warns America
1-21-7

.........Do you know what Jews do on the Day of Atonement, that you think is so sacred to them? I was one of them. This is not hearsay. I'm not here to be a rabble-rouser. I'm here to give you facts. When, on the Day of Atonement, you walk into a synagogue, you stand up for the very first prayer that you recite. It is the only prayer for which you stand. You repeat three times a short prayer called the Kol Nidre.

In that prayer, you enter into an agreement with God Almighty that any oath, vow, or pledge that you may make during the next twelve months shall be null and void. The oath shall not be an oath; the vow shall not be a vow; the pledge shall not be a pledge. They shall have no force or effect. And further, the Talmud teaches that whenever you take an oath, vow, or pledge, you are to remember the Kol Nidre prayer that you recited on the Day of Atonement, and you are exempted from fulfilling them. How much can you depend on their loyalty? You can depend upon their loyalty as much as the Germans depended upon it in 1916. We are going to suffer the same fate as Germany suffered, and for the same reason.

'The quote was: 'the Zionist regime soon be wiped out,''

Even if this were a truely accurate translation, it says the ZIONIST REGIME. It does not say Israel. Ahmadinejad's point was that the GOVERNMENT of Isreal would meet it's demise because of the way they are behaving. So it appears as though you're trying to fit your point by taking an inaccurate traslation out of context to make it sound more than what it is.

Green balloons or no balloons, Israel DOES NOT have the right to illegally invade Lebannon's airspace no matter what they say to justify it. Maybe if they decided to stay within the parameters of international law instead of breaking the rules and screaming about how everyone hates them, people wouldn't resent them as much.

The 'Wipe Israel Off The Map' Big Lie

Barely a day goes by that one can avoid reading or hearing yet another Israeli, American or British warhawk regurgitate the broken record that Iran's President Ahmadinejad threatened to 'wipe Israel off the map,' framed in the ridiculous context that Israeli's are being targeted for a second holocaust. This baseless rallying call for conflict holds about as much credibility as Dick Cheney's assertion that Saddam Hussein was planning to light up American skies with mushroom clouds.

So Mark, 'Prisonplanet.com' eh, that is more reputable then Reuters...
Actually, barely a day goes by where some moonbat Iranian madman apologist doesn't regurgitate the nonsense about that 4'3' evil Sonny Bono lookalike DIDN'T say that Israel should be or will be destroyed.

I posted the Reuters statement: The quote was: “the Zionist regime soon be wiped out,”

“We actually had access to this speech, and heard the president’s words verbatim from our own TV footage. We stand behind our translation. In this case, he used the word “mahv,” which in Farsi means “wiped off”….”

Here:
http://www.slate.com/id/2140947

'Our dear Imam [Khomeini] said that the occupying regime must be wiped off the map and this was a very wise statement.'

So stick your head up your backside and pretend it doesn't mean the same thing if you wish but that lunatic has said that more like it over and over.

Acording to Iranian news he babbles: the 'Zionist regime whose demise is, of course, imminent'...

Lets see, what else He has called the Holocaust a 'myth' and Israel a 'tumor' in the Middle East. The legitimate news is full of his bluster and threats against the USA and Israel.

Googol the 'hidden imam', the '13th imam' or the Mahdi, you will see why he wants to bring about a cataclysmic confrontation with the west.

The actual quote was something closer to 'like other countries before it, Israel will disappear from the pages of time.' Of course, it suits Israel's propaganda purposes to claim that the Iran leader said 'wiped off the map' and make it sound like he was stating his violent intentions. But you should know the truth -- that is not what he said. Unless you are some sort of obedient Israeli who shuts his mind off in obesiance to the right-wing Israeli government ('baaaa, baaaa' said the sheep) then I urge you to see through the propaganda and get the facts. (Something about being in the IMF seems to leave people brainwashed and brain-dead. Pathetic!)

As for the green balloons, wasn't that a song by Nena? Oh wait, those were red. Anyway, I'll wait for more information to come in on this one. We do know that Israel's army was guilty of mass civilian slaughter in Lebanon, and George Bush is going to an issue a statement tomorrow claiming Israel violated its agreements with the U.S. by using cluster bombs. So don't dismiss these stories until the facts come in.

Israel has nothing to do in Lebanese airspace.

As Israel has bombed Lebanon with illegal cluster bombs and depleted uranium before there is reason to be suspicious of whatever that country does.

I look forward to receiving more information but I do not expect it from the mainstream media, which are not known for spreading truthful information due to its Zionist ownership.
