yes,I'm in agreement with Brandi
We've all seen the images of how Israel treats the Palestinians.
All jews do is shrilly scream about anti-semitism when you bring up thier
behavior. Just substitute the phrase with 'you're anti-criminal'.
Israel is an aparthied state.

A lot of Americans wish Israel didnt exist..whether or not the Iranians do. I am old enough to remember when we had NO enemies in the Middle East. All that changed with Israel and their slaughter of all persons not Jewish. And what about the Talmuds proclamation that 'even the best of goy (non-Jews) are to be killed' ? You apologists for Israel make me sick.

Some of you are asking for corroboration from other sources. After a couple minutes of searching I found 2 other sites containing this story.

Here it is on Harretz.com, the online site of the well-established Israeli newspaper. http://haaretz.com/hasen/spages/818324.html

And here it is over at The Raw Story, which cites Deutsche Presse Agentur as its source. DPA is in essence the German version of Reuters. http://rawstory.com/news/2007/Israel_planes_dump_suspicious_green_01272007. html

Oops, I guess I should actually read the articles before claiming they corroborate the story, huh? lol

Now that I have, I feel obligated to correct my error by letting you all know that Haaretz story does not confirm the story, but tells instead that these balloons were from a promotional campaign for Ha'ir, a Schocken group newspaper. According to them, it was the wind that carried them into Lebanon.

Dear Juliopolis,
How come that the Haaretz is writing about the balloons and already knows where they came from etc before anyone else knows?
It's like the 7-7 bombings in London when all the world was speculating for days but the Haaretz wrote 2 hours after the event an in detail report about the perpetraitors and concluded that war should be declared to Iran.

Ahmadinejad's quote is easily found and authenticated, when someone wants to find the proper translation and authenticate it. Context says it all:

“Just as the Soviet Union was wiped out and today does not exist, so will the Zionist regime soon be wiped out. This is God's will and what all nations want.”

It's a prediction based on the trend of things. It says nothing about anything anybody is going to do to Israel. Nobody did anything to the Soviet Union to wipe it out. The Soviet Union collapsed from its own weight. And quite a few countries were happy about that, too. Economically I can definitely see Israel's actions leading to a decisive shift in government policy, which means a change in government. I've never seen, in all history, a decisive change in policy that did not mean a change in government. All that military to no real economic benefit to Israel or the people sending Israel money. Why should Israel be immune to economics?

If Israelis chooose to think they're going to be wiped out by active action of others, their thinking will adjust along those lines and their actions will not reflect reality. It is better to pay attention to the reality of what Ahmadinejad said. If he's right then maybe Israel should change its policy before there is no choice. If he's wrong then he's wrong. Why do Israelis choose to change what he said to make themselves feel worse and also mentally send themselves into outer space? Reality is better than propaganda when it comes to the important decisions people have to make.

Whether or not this happened, the mere possibility that such balloons were dropped is a bit frightening. Something like this would more than likely affect children disproportionately. Even though Hezbollah types have been know to dress their little ones up like suicide bombers, or soldiers complete with bandoliers of belts of machine gun ammunition, it is still uncalled for.

Of course, the Willy-Pete (white phosphorous) artillery shells Israel used to use in Lebanon were probably a myth, too..

Or were they???

Oh yeah. I voted for W. Twice.

Doug, Read the article. Haaretz knows about the source of the balloons because (1) the name of the newspaper -- Ha'ir -- was emblazoned on the balloons and (2) Israel is a small country. Other newspapers would know about promotional activities of their competitors. There are many conspiracies in the world, no doubt, but don't go looking for one here. The balloons were released in Northern Israel. The wind carried them into Lebanon, and given the tension of the past months and the Hebrew writing that was on them, the story grew.

Given the mass hysteria in Lebanon, between the war Hizbullah started this summer and the current civil clashes, its no wonder people are sure the balloons were dropped from planes, despite the fact that any rational person would stop and think about the physics and logistical problems with doing that!

Bread - there's another very good reason why Ha'aretz would know the source of the balloons. Ha'aretz is part of the Shocken group, the same group of which Ha'ir is a member.

That is just it... Balloons, Wiping off of maps, a bigot will believe what a bigot wants to believe. I don't blame any country for taking the necessary steps to protect themselves from such willful ignorance.

I think it's an outrage that a *German* news agency, Deutsche Presse-Agentur, should be disseminating a patently false story about Israel dropping poisonous balloons over Lebanon, and equally outrageous that Monsters and Critics regurgitates such ridiculous anti-Israeli propaganda..

Its not all that funny really, if true, what explanation could there be for the aerial delivery of little green balloons -thats an expensive party stunt-- maybe they are combat issue condoms [CIC's]that accidentally fell out of a passing military aircraft.....Little green balloons are not much of a threat in themselves, [imagine the implications] but what if they held an infectious agent?

I think that the increasing probability of escalation in the region in the near term warrants examination of all events that might count as battlefield preparation....a sudden epidemic via a manufactured contagion delivering massive short-term debilitation might just give a good feeling in your holster...

Israeli/Zionist actions machinations are not utterly deniable only debatable in the particulars....assuming the media/academy/government/corporate complex is transparent...., on second thought...
Nevertheless, we are watching....

Yeah, this is a curious story.

What I noticed was the comment in the Haaretz article;

'The Lebanese media reported that some civilians were hospitalized after inhaling the gas in the balloons.'

What are the odds that people were picking up the balloons and opening them up to inhale the contents? Surely if the gas were escaping through the pores of the skin of the balloon it would be in such minute quantities (it can take days for a balloon to entirely deflate) that the 'gas' wouldn't be likely to affect anyone significantly?
