If we were a pacifist nation what happened to the numerous tribes of indigenous americans, why did we invade mexico in 1848, what happened to our pacifism during world war one? I believe you are mistaken to think that we stayed out of wwII for any other reason than economic stability, and selfishness. If our enemies cower before us, how was it that they struck the trade center? It is convenient to say that a murderer deserves what was coming to him, not quite so easy to accept when we have become that murderer. Saddam husseins execution does not make us stronger, it only points out that we are as savage as we were thousands of years ago, after all hammurabis code dictated an eye for an eye. Many of you preach hatred and rationalize it by saying that we are hated, have you no shame?

dear sprintracer4 you have been watching too much fox news (Israeli News)
Sadam never dealt with zarcawi. In fact zarcawi was working with the Kurds
to fight against him. As for fatah and Hamas they are only recognised as terrorists by 2 nations on this planet america and israel. These are the 2 nations that have brought all the hatred and wars to this oil rich region of the world. Being a liberal socialist is infact not a crime as fox would brainwash you to believe. It means being against every thing people like you and the other neo-cons believe in. Things like robbing oil to make your country richer at the expence of the poorest of the poor.
American foreign policy at this time is terrorism. It is breeding paranoya
among american people and fear for the rest of the world.
Bill Clinton brought peace to many places. George has yet to try.

Jim,

You are correct. Not only has Kim Jung commited crimes against humanity, he has the power to do it again (IE fire thousands of short-range missle into and nuke S. Korea) to a much greater degree. That is the difference.

Say you are at a party. A man comes in with a bomb strapped to his chest and says he is going to kill everybody unless he gets what he wants. You negotiate.

Now say this same man walks into the room and yells the same thing. You don't see a bomb or a detonator. You do see one across the room, on the floor, and also you know that he has been talking with people outside of the party that have bombs. Plus he has orchestrated the bombing of other innocent civilians. He starts running towards the bomb. He might already have one that you can't see. What do you do?

Now, granted, Saddam couldn't tell the international community that he didn't have any weapons of mass destruction. Iran would have pounced on him the next day. But at the same time, he had 10 years+ advance warning that we were coming. Do you truly believe that with 10 years+ advance warning his government was not able to figure out a way to get the weapons outside of the country before we go there, if needed? What about the convoys of government trucks leaving Baghdad as the U.S. was coming in? Could the world afford to wait and hope that Saddam would not do what he said he wanted to do, particularly when he kept blocking the U.N. from confirming that he did not have these weapons? He violated the will of the community, it was their mandate (the United Nations), not the United States'.

Why is France on the security council anyways? I can understand China, Russia, the U.K., and the U.S. They all have real military power. If you answer 'because they are nice guys' I would ask you what has France offered in the entire last century towards the greater good of our world?

To the goof who blames this on Clinton. When Clinton left office he left a list (as all outgoing admins do) in which Osama Bin Laden and the other various Islamic terror groups were #5. The Bush admin promptly moved the US economy to #1, and totally took Bin Laden off the list. I am a life long Republican, but I am not too idiotic not to realize that this admin has been the worst in the last 35 years.

I don't like how the news editor or writer uses the word 'condemnation' from the pope. The pope does not condone condemnation, that is for God to do.

I think the patriotic Juan, Patriot #1, sprintracer 4 and bulkid should set up a crack team to fix all the worlds problems. because we all need your protection
and are so greatful to you for slaughtering 650,000 iraquis while protecting us.
Here in Ireland when were not speaking to Lepreachans we are just sending letters to all the americans for letting us live another day.
The rest of the world realy respects you and your way of protecting us.
Chuck Norris could lead your crack team and then you could win this war in one hour and the whole world would rejoice and send flower petals to you.
You truly are the bringers of democracy and stability even if it means having to kill babies in their beds and torture a few inocent people we still love you.
God bless chuck Norris and god forgive America

Brian, thank god you don't believe all the shit being fed to the public.

There is much information out there to show who is to blame. The people Saddam killed were not ordinary people in his country but mossad trained gorillas.

I am a white Christian Scotsman and today I stand bemussed by what has just happened.

Israel has broken MORE un resolutions than Saddam had so why not go in there? I will tell you why because the United States is a part of Israel thats why.

Go read the rest of you and educate yourselves, go read Victor Ostrovsky (ex Massad Agent) better still go here and they will read it to you.

I give up,...GEN.Hirohito once sait that an invasion of mainland America would be impossible, there would be a rifle behind every every blade of grass. All the liberals out there have unwittingly aided terrorist in the attacks on our country. No one respects us mostly because of the media's coverage of the stupid Godless things you all bitch about. and on to George Bush,.. have'nt any of you ever made a mistake befor and needed some support to help fix the problem ?you people do not know what it's like to live in war torn countrys. most of you watch T.V and then decide you don't like what you see so then you act like little childeren and whine about it instead of pulling together as a country and supporting our elected leaders to better the situation.GROW UP AMERICA !!!!! do the right thing by OUR country.

RIGHTWING FLIGHT said 'if you live in this country,G.W Bush is YOUR president too.if you do not agree with what is taking place here, please leave.'

With that great logic, 65% or so of Americans would have to leave the country, as Bush's popularity keeps dropping...

The fact is America reteated from an interventionist stance after WW1. Laws were enacted to prevent a large standing army. The army and the air arm was trimmed to the bone, and the only arm that was addressed was the Navy, which saved us when war came.

By 1939 America, by popular consent, turned almost totally to diplomacy. Understand that a portion of americans knew what was coming, but popular opinion prevented a proactive stance.(sound familiar?)

Roosevelt engaged the japanese, but capitulated as did his predecessors. The result? A nation that felt they could attack America.

This is the smoking gun in history, illustrating how you can send the wrong message, ignore the facts, and kill millions more than was ever necessary. A proactive stance in 1933, would have given Hitler and Japan pause,a very deliberate build up of the miltary would have contained them. rusia would have not been able to annex Eastern Europe. Imagine the consequences of a Cold War in 1939. Millions saved, our nation lifted out of poverty by investing in a robust military.

Instead, we slept. The situation, that needed an ounce of prevention, required a pound of cure. Millions dead, millions more traumatized by the horrors of war. 6 million jews, 5 million more, mentally ill, gays, and gypsies, 20(?) million Russians...jesus.

Pacifism has killed more people than communicable disease. A ready military and a policy of judicous use has discouraged more aggression than all the talk ever did. History is replete with examples.

Bush did what other Presidents failed to do, confront the problem. Mistakes? Hell yes. Failing to act? Hell no. I'll take Bush's way any day of the week.
