Former Jordanian minister suspected of corruption

Amman - The Jordanian government has referred an alleged corruption case involving a former minister to the lower house of parliament for legal action, local newspapers reported Sunday. Ex-Minister of Municipal Affairs Abdul Razzaq Tbeishat, General Manager of the Cities and Villages Development Bank Ibrahim Nsour and three others were suspected of corruption, the government's official spokesman Nasser Judeh was quoted as saying. They are also charged with abuse of public funds in a 2002 purchase of loaders and garbage pressers for the Ministry of Municipal Affairs. Tbeishat will be interrogated by the house, which has the constitutional jurisdiction to investigate and collect evidence related to the case, judicial sources said. According to the constitution, ministers should be tried by a high tribunal for offences which may be attributed to them in the course of the performance of their duties. © 2006 dpa - Deutsche Presse-Agentur
