Saudis to spend at least 15 billion euros on Eurofighters: report

London - Saudi Arabia plans to buy 72 Eurofighter military aircraft to replace its ageing Tornado fighter jets, Britain's Financial Times reported Friday. The deal is expected to be worth at least 15 billion euros (19.25 billion dollars) and with weapons and maintenance contracts, it could be as high as 30 billion euros, the newspaper reported. An agreement had already been signed between British Defence Secretary Des Browne and his Saudi counterpart, the report said. The Eurofighter is manufactured by a European consortium that includes Britain's BAE Systems, the Franco-German EADS and Italian and Spanish elements. Experts estimate that BAE will receive up to two thirds of the income from the deal. A definitive contract is expected to be signed by the end of the year. © 2006 dpa - Deutsche Presse-Agentur
