Kolkata, May 17 (IANS) Legendary magician P.C. Sorcar (junior) Thursday passed on his family art of magic to his eldest daughter Maneka Sorcar by handing over the magic wand ceremonially.
Sorcar (junior) - the legendary figure in the world of magic - announced that from now Maneka, eldest of his three daughters, would carry on the magical tradition of Sorcar dynasty in her own way.
'With the advancement of time we should always welcome our next generation to shoulder the responsibilities in the days to come. Though I am not retiring from the world of magic I am just passing on our family legacy to my daughter so that she can carry it on responsibly,' he told IANS.
Sorcar (junior) - the second son of the late magic icon P.C. Sorcar - is a living legend of magic in India.
He comes from the famous Sorcar family of Hindu magicians who are popular in this field for at least eight generations.
'When I took over the responsibility to carry on this tradition in 1971 after my father - P.C. Sorcar (senior) - died of a cardiac arrest while performing magic in Japan there was literally no one who could guide me properly. And till now I can feel the helplessness of those days when I had to take up the magic wand of my father,' he said.
'If I could get some more time to spend with my father and discuss difficulties that I faced then, it would have helped me a lot in my life, said Sorcar (junior).
'I don't want the same thing to happen to the next generation. At least now if my daughter faces any problem she can easily discuss it with me,' said the elated father, adding, 'I am sure that Maneka is a competent successor of Sorcar family.
Maneka chose magic as her profession after completing her MBA degree.
'I have learnt this form of art entirely from my father. I chose it not because of the glamour associated with it but for my intense inclination to practise the magnetic field of magic,' she said.
