Schools closed in several Argentine provinces over flu (Roundup)

Buenos Aires - Schools were closed for varying lengths of time in the Argentine provinces of Santa Fe, San Luis and Santiago del Estero to stop the spread of the A(H1N1) influenza, officials said Monday. At least 28 people have died from the new flu virus in Argentina, with 1,587 confirmed infections. Most cases are in and around the capital, Buenos Aires. Argentine Health Minister Graciela Ocana resigned Monday, even as the government was evaluating more restrictive measures across the country to combat the spreading flu. Ocana had been expected to resign for several weeks. She had disagreements with the government as she attempted to combat both the flu and an earlier outbreak of dengue fever, and she was caught up in a political conflict with allies of Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner. Schools were to remain shut for two weeks in Santa Fe, where the two-week winter holiday had been scheduled to start on July 13. In San Luis, classes were to be suspended for seven days, the same as in Santiago del Estero.
