Taiwan issue immigration alert against Mexico's swine flu

Taipei - Taiwan Sunday ordered all its airports to tighten immigration checks on North Americans to prevent the possible influx of a new flu strain that has killed more than 80 people so far. 'Visitors from Mexico and the United States including homecoming Taiwanese nationals found to have fever and flu symptoms will be sent to special hospitals for isolation, pending virus inspection,' said Shih Wen-yi, spokesman of the Department of Health. The latest measure came after the World Health Organisation warned Saturday that the deadly flu could become pandemic. Shih said all visitors entering Taiwan are required to go through a thermal-sensing device to check for fever. They are also asked to report to health authorities if they suspect they have infected such a flu.
