Czech woman gives birth alone on Christmas Eve

Munich - A Czech woman was alone Monday in her Munich apartment when she went into labour and gave birth.

Paramedics were called around noon to the apartment, where the 26- year-old opened the door with her newborn son in her arms. She had already tied the umbilical cord and washed the baby before telephoning for help.

The Christmas Eve delivery began when the pregnant woman felt pain in her abdomen, three weeks before her due date. The child's father was at home in the Czech Republic.

After feeling contractions, the mother got into the bathtub, and within a short time she delivered her first child.

The woman and her baby were admitted to a Munich hospital for observation over the Christmas holiday.
