Madrid - A Spaniard who became known as the world's oldest woman to give birth has died at age 70, two-and-a-half years after having her twin sons, the dailies Diario de Cadiz and El Mundo reported Wednesday.

Bousada, who was from the southern city of Cadiz, died from cancer on Saturday. Her brother, who was quoted as confirming her passing, declined to give further details. Bousada had believed she would live until age 101 like her mother, which would have allowed her to see her sons grow. The unmarried former saleswoman became pregnant at age 66 at a fertility clinic in Los Angeles. She said the clinic had not asked her age, but other reports said she lied that she was 55. The clinic managed to fertilize Bousada with donor eggs despite her not having had a period for 18 years. She gave birth by caesarean section at age 67 in December 2006, being the oldest woman to become mother at the time. In 2008, her record was beaten by a 70-year-old Indian woman.
