AC Milan replace Ancelotti with Leonardo

Rome - AC Milan replaced coach Carlo Ancelotti with Brazilian Leonardo Sunday after the end of the last game of the Serie A season, Italian media reported. 'I and (Milan vice president Adriano) Galliani decided to sever the contract tying me to Milan,' Ancelotti was quoted as saying. 'It should have lasted until 2010. We started talking about this two months ago and today, at game's end, the conclusion arrived. I'm a free coach. I think it was the right choice.' Ancelotti, who turns 50 in June, denied having had contacts with English giants Chelsea, as has been widely reported in the past weeks. Galliani later said that Leonardo was the team's new coach for the next season. Ancelotti is a former Milan player who in eight seasons steered the Devils to win one Serie A scudetto, two Champions League titles and a Club World Cup. He closed the current season in third place thanks to a 2-0 win at Fiorentina on Sunday, which directly qualifies the Devils for the next Champions League. Leonardo Nascimento de Araujo, 39, is also a former player of Milan, from 1997 to 2001. He was part of the club's technical staff after closing his playing carer with Brazilian sides Flamengo and Sao Paulo. Galliani said he will be officially presented on Monday.
