Norwegian teacher called hero after seizing school boy's shotgun

Oslo - A nine-year-old pupil fired a shotgun Tuesday outside a school in northern Norway, but no people were injured in the incident, local media reported. A female teacher at the Kanebogen school in Harstad, northern Norway, managed to disarm the boy who was seen brandishing the gun outside the school. Some reports said at least one shot was fired. Initial reports suggested that the boy had taken the gun to school after an altercation with an older pupil. A probe has been launched into the incident and regarding where he got hold of the weapon. The teacher who overpowered the boy was 'a hero,' local police chief Elisabeth Kaas told public broadcaster NRK. Local authorities said a crisis team was deployed for pupils and their families, and police were also talking to school employees. The school has some 300 pupils from grade 1 to 7, and 35 employees, NRK reported.
