Pathetic Lithuania should remember who real bosses of EU are. Germany and France. Lithuania is small, poor and backward. It can't veto EU decisions.
If the Baltic States don't feel like Europeans and want to have their own interests settled with Russia, they should be ask'd to leave the EU!
Western Europe wants good relations with Russia and NO LONGER participate in the axes of evil with the US and Israel violoating world peace wherever they think they are powerful enough to kick ass.
Wolfgang
The consensus principle in the EU is important because it provides the East European regimes with external legitimacy – the only legitimacy they have; and this seems to be more important to the said regimes than economic aid on the expense of “Old Europe”. Expect the Eastern comrades to fight tooth and nail for the upholding of the principle.
I think the German FM nailed it. Dialogue and cooperation between the EU and Russia benefits the EU as much as Russia. How long should the EU governments hurt their own citizens by restricting trade, for the purpose of saying 'You've been a naughty boy' to Russia?
Russia is not Western Europe and if the EU attempts to hold it to Western European standards, it will just hurt both sides (and not make Russia act more like Belgium).
Where was the EU reaction when the Chinese crushed dissent in Tibet last spring?
Try research South Ossetia is on Google for yourself.
It seems Georgia actually bombed South Ossetian homes in the middle of the night, and killed 1500, whilst being armed & trained by Israel & USA? And also, for understandable reasons, these people reject Georgia and wish to be part of Russia or independent . If so, why are the 'South Ossetian' wishes not THE ISSUE to all? The precedent that really matters most is called freedom & democracy & being reasonable.
Lithuania will always stand for what is right.
and sp4, do you even have any idea of whats going on here? probably not.
