If he thinks that anyone will believe him. He started the war by attacking those two regions. Russia had to protect those ethnic Russians.

He also miscalculated that the US and the EU would get involved militarily. Trust me neither one of those two has the guts to get involved militarily.

This guy has signed his own death warrant, cause from this moment forward his days are numbered.

He embarrassed his own people by miscalculating that he would get the help that he had hoped for.

He also thought that China would get upset with Russia for fighting an attacking Georgian army in those two break away regions during the Beijing Summer Olympic Games. China by its statement with the other SCO members, including Russia, made clear it supported Russia's action to operate as a peace keeping force. By not saying more than that the Georgian media and the western media wrongly gave the impression that China did not support Russia in its actions.

The fact of the matter is that Russia and China are now long-term strategic partners and it is in both their interests to support one another.

If the US and the union of western European countries so-called EU think otherwise the joke is on them.

Russians are conducting ethnic cleansing of Georgians in SO wiping entire villages of the map,Russians did everything to provok Georginas,by arming and suuporting separatists,why 'peacekipers never stoped them from firing on Georgian villages?..

To the commentator above me, est-ce que tu francais or something? Les russes et les georgies ont une faute dans cette guerre mon ami. Alors, les georgians commencent la guerre cette fois parce que les Abkhazians et (sud) Ossetians ne payer pas les tarrifs et chose comme ca. Les russie devient attaquer pour protecte ces citoyens, n'est pas? Pansez avec ton tet et apres dit les choses que tu panse qu'est vrai!

This guy is a joke. How many of you who have commented even know the past history of Sakasvilli. Even recent past history where he stomped on protesters (150,000 strong) in his own country, closed down opposition media sites and rigged votes. This is the same guy you'll back? Russia may not be right, but he definitely is far worse. He is a US puppet, even has George W. Bush Street that leads to the Airport in Tblisi. What so you can feel righteous while contributing to a unnecessary showdown with Russia? Get real.

But the very night of the invasion I was watching the live reports
Sakashvillie was interviewed and
a.) he was smiling, self assured even making a small joke. in other words he believed he'd pulled off a major victory
b.) georgia was announcing they controlled tshinvalli

[THIS WAS BEFORE RUSSIAN TANKS CAME THROUGH THE TUNNEL AT THE RUSSIAN BORDER] and swept the georgians out

Guys, wake up and look at the facts
If the Russians had invaded Georgia then what would Georgians be doing in the South Ossetian capital? Instead they would be repelling the Russian invasion force, they were not, because there was none

Saakashvili lives in colossal self-delusion if he thinks that people are taking him still seriously. Everybody could see him smiling, giving interviews and making statements at the beginning of Georgian attack on South Ossetia. We are doing that to reestablish constitutional order in Georgia he was saying then and not we are trying to stop Russian invasion. We know that on August 8 U.S. blocked in UN Security Counsel a resolution proposed by Russia that called for immediate stop of using armed force by all sides in the conflict and they did it ON SAAKASHVILI'S REQUEST. Saakashvili wanted to be like Croatia's late strongman Franjo Tudjman who (with U.S. approval and assistance) crushed Serb secessionist Republic of Srpska Krajina in 1995, which was under protection of UN peace-keepers. Unfortunately for him, Russians are no laughable blue helmets...

Well, if he has evidence, then it warrants investigation.

It seems highly suspicious, based on Saakashvili's behaviour before and during the war.
- Saakashvili had the re-acquisition of South Ossetia and Abkhazia as one of his goals as President.
- Russia had been trying to get Georgian officials to sign an agreement they would not use force against South Ossetia and Abkhazia. The Georgian officails refused to sign it.
- For a long time, Georgia built up its military in a massive scale.
- One week before the invasion, the Georgian army staged a massive military exercise.
- During the invasion Saakhashvili announced on Georgian television that he had begun a military operation to retake South Ossetia. He doesn't say anything about a Russian invasion.

This evidence had better be really convincing. If not, he reveals himself a liar and someone unfit for presidency.

This guy needs a soft padded cell.

His US and Israeli advisers/mercenaries and fled in anticipation of the conflict well before he started bombing South Ossetia and before his bellowing that he had obtained approval for a 15day war.
The day after he bombed South Ossetia and killed 000s he was cockily boasting that he had secured the capital and was willing to talk
ceasefire with the Russians.

He stupidly threw the first punch and killed innocent people because he thought the US would jump in and defend him. What he never reckoned on was that Putin's Army was sooo close and would reject his offered ceasefire and give him a bloody good hiding for his trouble.

Georgian Defense Minister is a Jew!

The Georgian defense minister is an Israeli Jew called Davit Kezerashvili! Other Jewish ministers in the Georgian cabinet include Temur Yakobashvili.
