Man, it's sweet to read American posts (with their customary 'Hitler and Nazi' routine) and almost feel their angry impotence. I waited long time for this. This war is a watershed event. America's puppet (that was spending 70% of Georgia's GDP on its pathetic military which was proved good only to rape Iraq and Ossetia) roundly defeated in 3 days, and while slimy Yankee slaves were routed the USA was doing what???.... begging Russia to stop. Begging! Oh,mother, what a pathetic fraud the Yanks are. A joke of a crappy collapsing nation. Remeber Kosovo, bastards? Now you know how Serbs felt...))) Off to a restaurant now - to toast another step in a long and painful American decline.
Not one word in all these posts about the causes of the conflict, only glee and mutual insults.Nobody even comes close to inderstanding what is going on and we are to believe it is the russian mndframe,or the slavic soulor whatever bullshit posters believe .Lack of hisorical perspective, lack of moral standards, lack of brains, kack of proper education, this stuff could happen everywhere now .
When human people are bombed and children mimed at least an effort ought to be made to learn a lesson.None is found in these posts .A missed opportunity.
Georgia has a long history of suffering from invasions. Included in that history was the Russian Empire, Communists, etc.
Georgia was, finally, a free nation in the latter part of the 20th century. Any sovereign nation has a right to defend its territory from the dictates of its cruel overlords.
History will be repeated again, and Georgia will be subjugated under the developing iron fist of the modern, enslaving attitudes of the Russian power seekers.
...the presidents of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia condemned in a joint statement the actions of Russian forces fighting in South Ossetia.
This time we do not stand alone, and neither should Georgia.
it is all down to Bush's meddling - with missile shields etc, so Russia is fortifying it's borders
'Russia is the New Nazi Regime of Europe...this time Europe will have to defend itself...America is tired of your whining and un-gratefulness...do you own fighting or learn russian and STFU.'
NO My FRiend so far it is USA who is the New NAZI Regime of World -
wake up and see what BUSH1/KKKLINTOON/BUSH2 have done.
btw i am from Ex-Yug republic - I know all languages form there Ex-Yug
I have intermediate understanding of Ukra/Russian -- so what is up with
'STFU'
ebem to bush!!!
Let me geuss some typical US HS drop out from a public school trained
in Political Correctness
To the poster who who said why we let idiots like that come to America
Listen to me guy, we all came for many reasons. I am also from Eastern Europe
and I believe you are very demeaning. I cant speak for
We came for the ideals and principles that America represent, along with
the opportunities to make a goood living. Have you read
John Kennedy's book 'A Nation of Immigrants', it is part of a picture of what
has drawn us to America. I am a citizen for many, many years - but I perceive that
the dignity and straight-forward morals that America had from 20-30-40-50 years
has almost evaporated. Case in point illegal immigration - you are some
15 yr old who doesn't understand that current President Bush cares about
more Iraq/Afganistan , but yet permits millions of undocumented aliens
thru Mexico.
So what if many in Tbilisi fear what Moscow will now do - rewrite map??????
BIG DEAL !!! WHAT DID YOUR IDIOT PRESIDENT DO IN KOSOVO!!!
The American Presidents are BIG BaK stabbers - bigger than Russin.
Look what Pres Clinton did after we helped US with Shiptar refugees after 1999

Huge riot erupts in Macedonia's capital of Skopje after American troops escort hundreds of Albanian rebels to safety away from Aracinovo, town that has been most recent flashpoint in political conflict; Macedonian Slavs, already angered by outside intervention, march through streets firing weapons; temporarily occupy Parliament in worst show of violence in capital since conflict began; atmosphere is one of rising chaos; US diplomat is slightly wounded in accidental shooting by Macedonian soldie...

government treats small countries like these many different ways
God help the Russian army and exterminate the New 21st Century Fascists
Georgia and their American handlers
Not So Average American, I feel your pain. And I like it. Georgia is a NASTY PIECE OF WORK, AND WE ARE GOING TO PULL ITS TEETH OUT, AND LEAVE IT TO ROT IN A DITCH. We don't need it, you can own it to your satisfaction. But South Ossetia and Abkhazia will be free.
You Yanks like feedom, don't you?
Funny, how you count on Poles and Balts. The funniest thing ever, in fact. I guess misery loves company. Only underlines one more time what a joke you had become. In Russia we never pay attention to anything these clowns are saying, so all of their little declarations may warm your weary soul, but for us they aren't worth paper they're written on.
Just so that you know.)))
Just like in Iraq/Afghanistan not only sad to see civilians die in line of fire -but also journalists:

I like Georgians, and I like Russians. I like Georgian cuisine much better than Russian cuisine. Most Russians would tend to agree. This is all a damn shame. Georgia is but a tiny fraction of the size of Russia, and yet Russia has been actively supporting separatists since early 90's. They are doing it because they can - not because of any moral justifications. Imagine - Russia granted citizenship to the majority of south ossetians who were aggressive towards Georgia - even though the territory is part of Georgia. How do you think that would play in your country?
Russia is massive and brimming with untold wealth - but it is utterly corrupt. Many villages outside the capital don't even have telephone service or running water, yet they still demand their imperial right to dominate every neighbor. This is just another example.
In Abkhasia, the russians supported a brutal muslim separatist movement that slaughtered tens of thousands of Georgian civilians. Why? I was there when it started. I knew many decent Georgians who were murdered. It is a jaw dropping tragedy.
For the record, I agree that Kosovo independence was a mistake. Why pretend these stupid little countries? Albania should have annexed part - and Serbia the rest. 'Palestine' is also a joke. Either relocate the arabs into Jordan and rename it Palestine, or split the difference with Israel and let Jordan annex its share.
Ethnically I wonder how many of the ossetians are really 'ossetians' vs transplanted soviet/russian ex-pats. You find large populations of Russians all over former soviet union. This has been a two edged sword for Russia. In this case, it gives them a reason to pull the trigger.
Russians commenting on this site prove the Georgian case why they do not want to be living under Russia's yoke, and there is no reason they should. Hopefully Georgia will find some practical solution. This will come back to bite Russia in the ass because they have far more minority territories who will make their own claims.
Look what happened in Chechnya.
Charles, you are a moron. Nobody in Russia wants a secession, not even Chechens. Putin's popularity in Chechnya is higher than the rest of Russia, where it's already sky-high.
But let's assume that your idiotic hopes come true and some people want to braeak away. We'll just explain to them that it's not in their best interest - THE WAY ABRAHAM LINCOLN EXPLAINED TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA 140 YEARS AGO. It'll be over quickly.
And of course once USA starts falling apart, we'll supply weapons to those states that decide to be free from the yoke of Washington.
Only a matter of time, the way the USA is going...
We love you Americans too, BTW.)))
'Putin's popularity in Chechnya'
Yes - we all know about government popularity and official turnout in soviet/Russian elections. Did you hear that wheat production was up 40% and far exceeded the most recent 5 year plan projections? Did ya?
'it's already sky-high.'
I am also glad that Russia has done well with its oil exports. But don't be too much of a fool and cheer for authoritarianism. Your former leaders murdered tens of millions of your own citizens, and terrorized many times more.
Quick now - try to somehow blame it on Bush. I know you want to.
'idiotic hopes come true'
They are not my hopes.
'THE WAY ABRAHAM LINCOLN EXPLAINED TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA 140 YEARS AGO.'
Nice use of capital letters! I don't think that is a valid comparison though (i.e. Chechens are not Russians), and you are simply proving my point. Russia is just flexing its muscles and will not tolerate independent neighbors. You cannot really imagine that Georgia is a threat to Russia? Are you so insecure? Russia would certainly brutally crush rebellion in minor fringe non-russian territories. Georgia was trying to assert its sovereignty over its own territory but Russia will not allow it.
'It'll be over quickly.'
Like it was for the polish officer corps in 1939 when they surrendered to the Russians. I don't doubt it - nor do I doubt the brutality of the powers that run Russia.
'And of course once USA starts falling apart'
Let's all hold our breath while we wait for that - shall we? Ready - 1 2 3...
'We love you Americans too, BTW.)))'
If I ever said I love all Russians, I misspoke. I only like some.
Please explain to me vasya, why does Russia support Abkhasia? Seriously, I never quite got that one. The only reason I can think of is that they want to destabilize Georgia.
Charlie, leave humor to professionals. You are not all that good at it. And what are you doing in North America anyway? After killing 10 million natives, USA doesn't even have a right to exist, period. Russia can't even hold a candle to Yankee brutality. Scumbags like you should go back to where your ancestors lived before they have stolen Indian land. Then you can preach to us, not before.
OK, now back to the subject. I guess if small countries like Kosovo or Palestine don't deserve independence as you seem to suggest, then Georgia doesn't either. It'a a small country too. Or you'd make an exception for that little Nazi anclave?
And, plase, chuckie, lay off your 'georgians are sweet and cute people' routine. Ossetians know Georgians better than you'll ever will, and they prefer Russia, unambiguously so.
And yes, Carlito, we are terribly insecure right now. Kinda like Kennedy was in 1962. We may not be as crazy, but don't push us too hard. I might be wrong on this one.
Let's hope that Putin isn't a coward. That he fulfills the desire of Russian citizens and pulverizes Georgia into oblivion.
When I said we love you Yanks, I didn't misspeak. We do love you a lot. Dead, though.
'what are you doing in North America anyway?'
I was born here - and I didn't kill anyone. So as usual you are wrong and wrong. Your black heart shines through. Luckily for the world you are just an ass wipe talking big on the internet.
'Russia can't even hold a candle to Yankee brutality.'
You are only kidding yourself.
'Palestine don't deserve independence'
In case you aren't aware, the only time 'Palestine' was ever an independent country was when it was called Judea. This latest 'palestine' thing was invented in the 1960's. Or maybe you didn'y know that? Idiot.
'Georgia doesn't either.'
Listen fool, Georgia as a nation, language, and culture had a thriving civilization when Russians were still sucking pine cones up in the trees. Don't take it personally. I don't actually have a horse in this race. As I said before, its a damn shame.
'He fulfills the desire of Russian citizens and pulverizes Georgia into oblivion.'
Funny that no Russians I know want to pulverize Georgia. I guess we travel in different circles.
'When I said we love you Yanks, I didn't misspeak. We do love you a lot. Dead, though.'
You are just a sick pup. Keep blabbing. This will blow over despite your homicidal fantasies. Get some therapy.
Oh and here is a simple analysis of Russian motives:
Russian cleptocracy cannot tolerate loss of energy monopoly/stranglehold over Europe and former satellites. Prospects of major pipelines bypassing Russian controlled territory through Georgia eliminates one of Russia's main foreign policy blackmail instruments. It is an immense power and Russia cannot be blamed for trying to keep it. Ruthless to be sure.
Similarly, the rest of the world cannot be blamed for trying to establish alternative sources not under Russia's thumb screws. Europe has seen that russia has no qualms about turning off the pipelines.
What would the russian economy be without oil/gas and other raw material exports? Its all they have so its in their interest to leverage it to the max.
'To the poster who who said why we let idiots like that come to America Listen to me guy, we all came for many reasons. I am also from Eastern Europe and I believe you are very demeaning.'
We here in the USA fought a cold war that had 3 generations of my family serving to liberate Eastern Europe. If you have come here to be an American, to contribute and be a part of the freest, most prosperous society on earth fine, you are welcome. If you came here to demean my country or import your grudges get the hell out.
'When I said we love you Yanks, I didn't misspeak. We do love you a lot. Dead, though.'
I loved tossing your knuckle dragging asses out of Kosovo and blowing up your crappy tanks in Iraq. (By the way, your tor missiles are a joke.)
Have some more vodka before your bravery wears off and you have to go back to being a nobody from a crumbling wasteland that people can't wait to escape from. That is what an 'average russian' is after all; someone with no future.
