Putin accepts invitation to NATO summit in April

Geneva - Russia President Vladimir Putin has accepted an invitation to the upcoming summit of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Tuesday, according to the Interfax news agency in Geneva. The summit of the heads of state and government of the 26 NATO members to take place from April 2 - 4 in Bucharest is to cover among other things the possible entry into the defence organization of Ukraine and Georgia. Russia has repeatedly stressed that the entry of the two former Soviet republics into the alliance would be interpreted as a threat to Russian security.
