Woman in Austria lives for months with dead partner

Vienna - A 66-year-old woman in eastern Austria lived for several months with the dead body of her 85-year-old partner, Austrian authorities said Wednesday. Police officers found the highly-decomposed body in the bedroom of the couple's weekend home in the village of St Andrae am Zicksee, covered in blankets, with strong decomposing odours permeating the whole building. The man probably died in March and the cause of death was believed to have been natural, but final examinations were still being conducted, the Austrian press agency said, quoting police officials. According to initial information, the woman consciously hid her partner's death, probably in an attempt to take advantage of the man's pension payments, but an in-depth investigation was still pending. Attempts by a local doctor and neighbours to get in touch with the man were deflected as the woman claimed her elderly partner was abroad.
