Police diffuse ETA bomb in in Basque region

Bilbao - Police in Spain's Basque region have found and diffused a bomb planted by the underground Basque separatist group ETA, officials and news reports said Sunday. The device and five kilos of explosives had been placed at the entrance to the court building in Getxo in the north-eastern city of Bilbao. The Basque Interior Ministry on Sunday said a caller claiming links to ETA had earlier warned of the bomb. Police experts succeeded in diffusing the explosives in time. Spanish Interior Minister Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba said, for the foreseeable future, there were no prospects for new peace talks between the government and ETA. Following the collapse of peace efforts at the start of the year, Spain had to live in the grip of terrorism by ETA for a longer time, Rubalcaba said in an interview with El Pais newspaper. © 2007 dpa - Deutsche Presse-Agentur
