Norwegian oil and gas production lowered over North Sea storm

Oslo - Oil and gas production at several fields in the Norwegian section of the North Sea was temporarily halted overnight over gale force winds, media and oil companies said Friday. Norwegian oil group Statoil Hydro estimated the temporary production stoppage at 110,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. On Thursday, the group had estimated the stoppage to some 320,000 barrels of oil equivalent but later Thursday revised its plans and continued scheduled production at several fields with fewer personnel. Initial reports Friday suggested that coastal regions in western Norway did not experience serious damage despite the strong winds and high waves. Some trees have toppled and roof tiles were affected but the damage was not serious, a duty officer in the Hordaland police district said according to Norwegian news agency NTB. In the west coast city of Bergen, police stopped vehicles with trailers from crossing a bridge overnight, and a few ferry routes were also temporarily halted along the coast.
