Most scientists do not deem human generated CO2 as the primary cause of global warming. There was mute acceptance of anthroprogenic warming until recently when the scientific community began to challenge Gore et al.
It is fairly well known, but seldom mentioned, that the western world was warmer in the middle ages than it is today. If mankind were the cause, then this would not have been the fact at that time. There were many few people, of course and certainly no industry as we see it today.
In time, we will be back to the 'Next Ice Age' scare.
I think the author misplaced the word 'few'.
' The Czech president is one of the few world leaders to publicly express doubt on what scientists deem very likely - that global warming is caused by humans.'
Should have been: The Czech president is one of the world leaders to publicly express doubt on what few scientists deem very likely - that global warming is caused by humans.
Sorry, guys...
The vast majority of scientists DO, in fact, attribute global warming to human activity. Don't know where you get your 'facts'. And global warming deniers wouldn't accept a human cause, and serious consequences, even if every scientist agreed that humans are to blame. The deniers are ideologically motivated, and thus are interested only in their ideology, whether or not the facts back it up. (Hmmm..sounds like WMDs that were supposed to be found somewhere in the MIddle EAst...now where was that again?)
Try and find a source for the documentary 'The Great Global Warming Swindle'; you will find that all sorts of scientists dispute the flawed theory that global warming is anthropogenic. In addition, there are numerous books out now, the most detailed being 'Unstoppable Global Warming; Every 1500 Years' which is extensively footnoted. Most of the hystery with regard to global warming is based on the output of huge computer programs (Global Circulatiion Models or GCM's)that even their authors admit are seriouly flawed. The biggest fans of the global warming theory right now are those pols and business people who see it as a source of profit; its hard to imagine grown men being stupid enough to pay money for 'carbon credits', which are completely worthless, but its happening.
History has been full of 'undeniable concensus' that has turned out to be false such as 'the earth is the center of the universe and the sun and planets rotate around it'.
The only thing that is undeniable is that the spotlight should be turned squarely on any movement that vigorously attempts to stifle a discussion of opposing views and vilifies anyone who doesn't 100% agree with their position. The living and breathing science of Science thrives on challenging established norms, pushing boundaries and breaking down perceived barriers through mature and intelligent discussion of experiments that deal with hard data... not conjecture or hysteria.
I for one do believe that the human experience most probably has an impact on all facets of our environment but I differ with the global warming hysteria crowd when it comes to the actual degree of impact, the possibilities of changing earth temperature significantly by stopping all supposed greenhouse gas emissions and the dire predictions of earth disaster if we do nothing.
Let's have an open and honest debate with scientific data. Let's welcome all viewpoints to an open forum and be courteous and open minded to oppsosing views. All I see today is mindless name-calling and idiotic portrayals of respected individuals as being nothing but puppets for corporate interests.
C'mon people...use your head. The earth has been going through cooling and warming periods forever. Let's find out exactly what percentage of impact our lifestyles are having. From that baseline, let's then determine a prudent course of action.
To ph: There is an article titled 'Breaking: Less Than Half of all Published Scientists Endorse Global Warming Theory' published by a government website. I am unable to post the direct link here but, if you are interested, I'm sure you can find it. (Also, there has been much evidence of WMDs in Iraq. Main-stream media manages not to publicize that type of news). Getting back to the story at hand, it is obvious you are the one who will not open your eyes to the all the facts. Just research (for yourself, if you are capable) all the facts around the GW debate. Just a few of these posts give you an idea of the information that is out there. You may call us deniers. I call it the obvious.
Has anyone ever seen a volcano erupt? Try and top that with an SUV.
I'm surprised that nobody here has mentioned the fact that NASA has confirmed that the data it produced -- and which Al Gore and the other alarmists relied on -- was incorrect. And now there is evidence that Mars has been in a warming trend, which lends credence to the idea that solar activity is a greater influence on the current warming cycle on Earth than humans.
Why don't they try to solve problems that we all agree on.
Less air and water polution.
I don't like dirty rivers and smog filled air.
Start with that and maybe we will think more about looking into a BS global warming debate.
I wouldn't trust the government running my auto insurance, let alone my health and the state of the environment. People have to be the ones to bring about change. Government just messes stuff up.
I find it particularly odd that these super-computers - at least as I understand it - ignore any 'input' from the Sun. How can you study what may or may not be warming the earth, without including inputs from the very thing that warms the earth above absolute zero in the first place. Couple this with the dreaded 'Medieval Warming Period', and it seems obvious much futher study is required at a minimum, or that we are dealing with nonsense at most.
Also - again, as I understand it - the largest 'greenhouse gas' is water vapor. WV I have read contributes 90-95% of greenhouse warming, where CO2 is a mere few percent. Guess we had better start a war on evaporation, rather than on SUV's. Maybe we should ban swimming pools!
Because the global warming movement is just this: A new religion for those who don't have one.
It has all the hallmarks of a religion:
Deeply held but unprovable beliefs
A Human hierarchy of holy men and women who write the doctrine.
An army of people dedicated to the belief regardless of facts
houses of worship i.e. naked folks on hill in Switzerland, concert goers cowing to Gore, etc.
Dissenter are inquisitiones to the the slaves of the movement, the liberal press, instantly impugned.
Falsehoods are gagged or covered up (NASA data) and the whistle blowers impugned.
No folks, science is the new religion. Clerical Consensus, not derived fact, now governs it.
he needs to run for president in the us. he'd have my vote
