The word is spelled 'defense'. The word you used means to get rid of a fence.
Defence?????? Puhleeeese. Doesn't anyone proofread anymore.
Hey guys: This is the world. Look it up in Websters: Defence: British spelling of defense. Cut the author a break.
Now, in regards to the article subject: Putin doesn't understand: Having the U.S. build a defense center is akin to white collar welfare for otherwise unemployable engineers. If he wants his workers to be on the dole then he has to suck up to the man. It's that obvious.
Defence is the correct international usage or did you not notice the use of kilometres in the article as well.
there's american english and british english. defense = defence, grey = gray, center = centre etc etc.
for those ignorants who don't know, keep your mouth shut and don't try to sound like you are a smart mouth.
