I commend you for this story. For it reveals the true identity of what some of the modern and civilized Turks are capable of doing. This also serves as a sign post as to what happened in 1915. Although we can't blame the entire nation and this current generation for what happened - but shouldn't the world see them as guilty for denying it?!

This latest act of barbaric cruelty against freedon of expression, against democratic humane rights and values, negates totally any hopes Turkey had of joining the EU. It appears, the French Presidential candidate monsieur Sarcozy, was absolutely correct when he recently stated Turkey is not part of Europe, has no place in Europe (geographically and socio-politically, not to mention economicaly...).
The Turks, once again, proved , they can not deemed to be on par of what Europeans highly consider as individual inalienable democratic rights. A society where the democratic , humane, rules of Law and Justice, are the accepted norms, and not the law of jungle, anarchy and savagery as once again is evidenced to exist in Turkey.
It is quite irrelevant if the Turkish prime minister is offering now conspicuous crocodilian tears for World consumption. Unless the uncivilised and archaic, barbaric Laws of Turkey (insult against Turkishness, insult against the State, death penalty etc), are immediately abolished , Turkey can not be even remotely entertain thoughts of entering the civilised, democratic society of Europe.

Why do ARMENIANS HATE TURKS so much?Jan 20th, 2007 - 05:59:47

Why do Armenians hate Turks so much?

Hatret does NOT ever bring anything good to anyone. I am a Turkish-American, living in Cleveland. I have never seen such hatred accross the board before. To them it doesnt matter what, if you are a Turk, Armenians in USA hate you. I suspect the same in France.

This hatred is the GLUE they use, to teach their kids (abroad) about being Armenian. They dont want generations to forget their identity. Unfortunately, they do this by using 'hate' as their tool.

Turks do NOT hate the Armenians, nor have any problem with them. Unlike what you would think of this ruthless cowardly murder. This is a shame. But 99.9% of Turks sincerely think like me, 'this is a shame', because VIOLENCE only causes worse events.

Remember a few years ago, when the Armenian terrorist organization ASALA murdered MANY MANY Turkish diplomats (& family) in many different countries. (It is sad that one of these terrorists was defended by a French-Armenian attorney, who by the way is a very powerful politician (Mr. Deveciyan) in France. This terrorist was defended like he was a here.

See, why violence does not pay-off. FIRST ARMENIANS MUST RID THEMSELVES OFF THE HATRET. ONLY THEN THEIR TRUTHFUL DIALOG CHANNELS WILL OPEN.

About the claims of genocide: I have only 1 question. Who sided with the Russians, made up more than half their army attacking the Ottoman Empire to claim a piece of the Ottoman empire lands in that era?

Turks want the TRUTH outJan 20th, 2007 - 06:16:15

I am tired of this huge deal Armenians are causing. They are making more noise than it should amount to. WHAT DO YOU WANT? It is obviously more than a recognition of a genocide claim. What do armenians really want? come out with it. . .

IT WAS NOT A GENOCIDE and everybody knows it:

*** How many times Turkey wanted Armenia to open its historical archives?

*** How many times Turks offered to form a historical team from both countries to analize history?

*** How many times did Turkish organizations invited Armenians for discussions?

*** Why do Armenians never notice that they sided with the Russians in World War I and killed many many Turks as well?

*** Do you realize that you are trying to push for a GENOCIDE during the world's first, biggest war?

*** Does this sound anything like what happened to the Jews?

If Turks really wanted to get rid off Armenians, why were there Armenians in very powerful government levels in the Ottoman Empire, including generals. And more importantly, why would there be ANY ARMENIANS LEFT in Turkey today????

ALSO, If Ottomans were really barbaric, intolerant, cruel people, wouldn't the Armenians be muslim now? Also, Greeks and other nations in the Balkans, how come everybody lived in peace for SIX HUNDRED YEARS? How come they never had to change their religions? (at a time when nations were going to wars over religion.)

PLEASE SOMEBODY TELL ME . . .

A FINAL NOTE: Do not try to threaten Turkey with EU membership. If we are not going to be real partners & allies, we would not want to join EU anyway. Nobody cares about a lying, cheating, back-stabbing partner.

Denying the Armenian genocide (perpetrated by the Turks) is tantamount to denying the Holocaust.
More than 1,5 million Armenians perished during WW1, victims of Turkey's barbarism and uncivilisedly savage cruelty toward the hapless Armenians, an undeniable fact documented by most independent historians.
Only fascists, islamists and derangedly paranoid anti-semitists deny that the holocaust against the 6 million innocent Jews took place.
The Armenian genocide is only denied by Turks and ignorants.
However, the distinct difference between the two inhumane genocidal acts of barbarism and misanthropy is this: The Germans have admitted and apologised officially (at the highest level) to the Jews and the World for Hitler's crimes.
The Turks, more than 80 years since the Armenian genocide, still refuse to accept the fact that their forfathers committed such inhumane acts of crimes against humanity and more specifically against the Armenian people. It's about time the Turks bite the bullet and face their past. Face the truth. Admit the Armenian genocide, and apologise to the Armenias and the World. It will make them feel better and rest assured, it will elevate the status of Turkey in the eyes of the rest of the civilised World.

You are wrongJan 20th, 2007 - 14:27:47

The writer (Jason) before is wrong. You can not possibly compare what happened to the Jews to what happened to the people of Anatolia in 1915.

That is the whole problem. Turks deny and will always deny, BECAUSE:

1.) IT WAS NOT A SYSTEMATIC KILLING,
2.) NOR BURNING.
3.) NOR DIRECTED TOWARDS ALL OF ONE ETHNICITY.
4.) IT WAS DURING WWI.
5.) ARMENIANS REVOLTED AGAINST THEIR OWN COUNTRY.
6.) ARMENIANS KILLED HOUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF TURK & KURDS.
7.) ARMENIANS TOOK UP ARMS, TO CARVE A PIECE OF THE OTTOMAN EMPIRE FOR THEMSELVES.

There is more. This list can go on. There is even a movie and proven facts of how Armenians revolted and killed hundreds of thousands of Turks & Kurds. We still can find the mass graves of Turks slaughtered by the Armenians.

Was Germany attacked by the Jews? Did Jews revolt and kill even ONE THOUSAND Germans before it all started?

Also, on a legal level, the word 'genocide' was described by UN in 1948 (I think). Before this date, all the colonizing nations were afraid that if they went back more, everything they did would be called a 'genocide' one day. So they decided to call it genocide basically for the Jews.

Turkish nationalists thought Hrant Dink was a traitor, also Armenian nationalists blamed Hrant Dink for being so close to Turks.

This good mannered person died because of stone age politic views of both sides.

I see that some people found Hrant Dink's death a great opportunity to attack Turkey's democratic and european future.

What were you expecting to happen?
-spending all energy and money for blaming your neighbour as a whole barbarian killers.
-teaching 10 year old kids that Turks are killers and killed their grandfathers.
-feeding whole nation with hate.

as a Turk, i accept that Turkey is not highly civilized like european countries, but Turkey is going in the good and true way.

What does Armenia prefer?
-Highly developed and democratic neighbour with high economic and other relationships
-or a big but not higly developed enemy to fight and loose time

There was a war long time ago between Ottomans and Armenians. Turkey founded against Ottoman empire but Turkey accepts that it comes from Ottomans. People killed each other.

You hear Armenians killed stories
we hear Turks killed stories
you see evidences of killed Armenians
we see evidences of killed Turks

so why do most people in the world heard only Armenians killed?
because Turkey, as a new country, aim was forget the war and try to develop a friendship between Armenia. But Armenians didnt stop the war. They accepted Turkey as enemy and continues war as cold diplomatic war.

we should stop thinking about the past, and look for a friendly future. Otherwise both countries will continue blaming each other until a war starts.

anyway, god bless hrant dink. i hope his death should be considered as a friendship starting for both sides. Otherwise his death wont be such meaningfull.

Best Regards
Oben Saltan

We are sorry for Mr. Dink. His murderer was caught by Turkish Police. The murderer was 17 and admitted his crime.Turkish nation have big loss. Anyway, when it comes to genocide issue.I suggest you to open an Ottoman history book (an objective one )and start to read.Your meaningless attitude will just keep making things bad. No türk killed any ermenians.I have about 4 ermanian friends and none of them agree that story. Therefore, please stop being puppet of a master. In addition, do not try to be barrier in front of Turkey(actually if you want to do that, then do that.I do not care about European Union), just try be nation which is based on real history.

love from İstanbul.

Like any other countries in the world Turkey has conflict, also. But you can't simply say TURKEY doesn't have place in the 'GREATEST' Europian nations.
Are you from this planet. Do I need to remind you Europian colonialism around the world, how this greatest nations killed indeginous people just for their economic gain. How they genocieded 10's of nations.Wasn't it Germany genocided millions of jews.
Oh. I know what you will say it was history they were apoligezed. Then check out NIGERIA and see what Douch-G.Bratain owned oil company SHELL does Nigerian people and then talk about that civilized, democratic western countries.
