Former US president Ronald Reagan to get monument in Prague

Prague - Former US president Ronald Reagan is to get a monument in Prague, the district mayor of Prague 6, Tomas Chalupa, said on Tuesday. The 40th president of the United States from 1981 to 1989 had never been to the Czech Republic, but he helped to defeat communism, said Chalupa. Many Czechs admire Reagan for his tough stand against the former Sovjet Union. His speeches on Radio Free Europe (RFE) before the 1989 breakdown of communism were very popular in the Czech Republic. The Polish capital of Warsaw is also considering erecting a monument in honour of Reagan, whio died in 2004 aged 93. © 2007 dpa - Deutsche Presse-Agentur

This is a great thing to do. Ronald Reagan was a great man with great ideas and unlimited courage. Not many will admit the role he played in setting millions upon millions free. This is a fitting tribute to a man that richly deserves it.
