Russia officials says Yukos investor suspect in Litvinenko affair

Moscow - Russia's state prosecution office suspects former Yukos investor Leonid Nevslin of involvement in the murder of former Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko, according to the daily Kommersant on Thursday. Nevslin rejected the accusations as 'complete nonsense that didn't warrant a reply.' Nevslin's attorney Dmitri Kharitonov accused Russian justice officials of attempting to effect the extradition of his client from his current residence in Israel to the United States. The prosecutor's office had reported Nevslin's visit to the US to that country's authorities, but he was not arrested, according to Nevslin's attorney. Russia the former Yukos major shareholder set an international warrant out on Nevslin two years ago for several contract murders. Kommersant reported investigators connection between Nevslin and Litvinenko was a British security firm that previously belonged to the Yukos concern. Shortly before his fatal poisoning, Litvinenko met with the security firm's managers, Russian businessmen Andrei Lugovoi and Dmitri Kovtun. Scotland Yard had detected traces of radioactive polonium 210 in the rooms of the business. Litvinenko died on November 23 from the highly toxic substance.
