Going back to when it was an Empire, Britain raped and pillaged every nation it conquered much in the same way as Hitler stealing national treasures back to London to prove British prowess. Now that the UK no longer welds any world power operating as the lapdog of the USA, Britain is less likely to allow these treasures to return home to their rightful owners because to do so would be to admit that England is now just a tiny little island off the North Sea.
