This week the Washington Post newspaper carried an article on Verizon's accusation that Google is "free lunching" on Verizon's lines.
What it may come down to, in today's climate of grease and graft, is whether Google or Verizon contributes the most to some dirty politician's re-election campaign. It mostly looks like Verizon is jealous of Google profits, and if our lawmakers are sufficiently enamored of greed and if legislation goes according to past performance then Verizon may well do the happy dance after paying off whatever politician controls the purse strings for ventures such as these.
Google has been, and remains despite attempts at government interference, the hope of a free and uncensored-by-special-interests internet.
At this point in our history, one has to wonder if the unexplainable government demands for Google search histories are not, in point of fact, a private money incursion and an attempt to lower Google's exploding profit margin brought about by the machinations of lobbyists, and also a precursor to the Verizon plot to deny Google the dominance it has earned.
It would make perfect sense if this was the case.
Google is foursquare for the people and has never made any bones about that.
This internal political war that America fights on a daily basis is nothing less than a concerted attempt to change the freedoms of this country to some form of dictatorship or regime as yet unspecified and thus there is no way to get any sort of grip on what defines our future and for we, The People, to decide if we are for it or against it.
Therein lies the danger.
At this point we can only recognize the dangers ahead and respond to each incursion into our freedoms as it occurs, and recognize our friends. Google is a friend to America and as such must be allowed and encouraged to carry on the pursuit of profit and the pursuit of freedom without the pseudo-political interference of tainted, crooked, and biased politicians.
Any organization seeking to delineate and control the information superhighway by inserting toll booths that do not currently exist should be deflected from that scheme.
Any organization, such as Verizon in this instance, which even remotely appears to be guilty of furthering attacks on American freedoms by fronting for interests which ultimately attack historically valuable American freedoms needs to be labeled the traitor that it becomes when it pursues an agenda opposed to the interests of the majority of Americans.
