Singapore - Telecom services provider Verizon Business has secured licences to provide international and national long-distance services in India, the Singapore branch of the company said on Tuesday.

The company said it sees great potential in the Indian fixed-line market despite a decline in users last year.

Videoconferencing is more widely adopted now in the Asia-Pacific region, said Andrew Dobbins, regional vice-president.

'You can sit in a room and have a high definition meeting and it is like the person (who) is talking to you is in the same room,' he said.

He also cited productivity improvements from videoconferencing meetings.

Through a joint venture, Verizon Business India will offer international private-leased circuits with multi protocol label switching and Internet protocol services.

The company currently has 770 employees in five Indian cities.
