Shares gain 3.1 per cent in Seoul

Seoul - Shares jumped 3.1 per cent Wednesday on the Seoul stock exchange on bargain hunting after two days of declines. South Korea's currency gained against the dollar. The benchmark Kospi index soared 43.04 points to close at 1,414.88. Advancing issues outpaced decliners 574 to 242. The main index of the technology-heavy Kosdaq market rose 2.4 points, or 0.46 per cent, to 520.36. On currency markets, the US dollar was quoted at 1,246.70 Korean won, after 1,265.0 won Tuesday.
