now theres a car.....simple. No extra doodads just point A to B transport...what most people do anyways...and enough for the groceries.
Some people are so hyped up on saftey features, not realizing that even with airbags, antilock brakes, seatbelts...your insurance rates still go up. basic saftey items like signal lights and head lights ...and moderate frame protection and basic bumpers is required in most accidents.
I am sure GM could build a no thrills car for under 8000 with no power steering, no power brakes, basic seat belts, small 2 banger engine(or electic boost gas engine, even smaller). and people would by it...but then again transport canada doesnt like anything unless it can jump through hoops...then do a song and dance before being aproved.
I am concerned that if this car comes to North America, how are the big three automakers that we are bailing out going to fair? I feel that since it does meet green requirements, it should be allowed to come to Canada, but with an excise tax slapped onto it. Further, a requirement that the tata car be made in Canada is a must, to offer these laid off autoworkers jobs to manufacture it. Now, I know that paying the union wages are not going to enable tata motors to sell the car at $2000 in Canada, so they will just have to charge more, like $9,000 each. The excise tax on the cars should go towards collecting back for what the taxpayers had to pay to bailout the big three auto companies as tata motors will hurt the big three.
