Italian super car on display at German exhibition

Essen, Germany - A prototype of what could become the most expensive car ever to go into series production will be on display at the Essen Motor Show in Germany next week, organizers said Thursday. All eyes will be on the giant coupe built by Italy's Turin-based Stola company when the show opens its doors to the public for an eight-day run on December 1. Only 25 of the high-performance luxury cars will be built, each coming with a price tag of 1.5 to 2 million euros (2.2 to 2.9 million dollars). Stola showed a prototype model of the 750-horsepower sports car at the Geneva car show in March. With a top speed of more than 330 kilometres per hours, the design appears to have been inspired by the Maybach Exelero, another luxury model built by Stola. The Essen Motor Show, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, is the most popular fair in Germany for automobiles, motor sport and classic cars. © 2007 dpa - Deutsche Presse-Agentur
