'From our perspective it's very important that, if you're going to do business with Iran, you're going to have problems doing business in the United States,' Vice President Dick

Hmmmm, ok Dick but... have you really thought that through ?

This would mean that Germany, Norway, the UK, France, China, Japan, Russia, South Korea, Sweden, and Switzlerland will have trouble making buisness with the USA in the future.

I wonder who the USA wants to do trade with then to close the gap ? Venezuela and Cuba ? *lol*

No really, i understand their dilemma but i also wonder how they think this shall work out ?

Thats like you threaten to cut your own leg off to pressure someone else into cutting one of his fingers from his own hand.

A lot of trade with Iran covers things like food and pharmaceuticals. Unlikely that anything from that will be ceased on the U.S's demand.

So Then What?Oct 30th, 2007 - 18:17:19

@... So if you don't believe in economic sanctions in order to reign in rogue regimes then what do you believe in, war?

Economic santions were supposed to be the last, best, alternative to war.

If the economic sanctions had not been circumvented through the corrupt oil for food program, we might have been spared a war in Iraq.

The money that saddam siphoned off that program allowed him to withstand the sanctions, and at least convince himself he had purchased sufficient protection from UN security councel action, and it allowed him to at least appear to be a viable player in the black market for WMD.

I believe you have to blame those who funneled money to saddam via the oil for food program every bit as much as the Bush Administration for the Iraq war.

Since Iran's trade with all of the above countries is a fraction of that with the USA I think the choice will be easy.... as you say...lol.
