Man dies in "revenge" blast in China's Xinjiang region (Roundup)

Beijing - A man died after detonating explosives Thursday in China's far western region of Xinjiang and two people were injured in the apparent revenge attack, local police said. The man claimed he was owed wages by a company in the regional capital, Urumqi, Xiao Wei, a spokeswoman for the Urumqi Public Security Bureau, said by telephone. He was identified as Han Wushun, 42, a migrant from the south-western province of Sichuan. 'He brought a black cloth bag containing explosives into the company on [Urumqi's] Hetan road,' Xiao said. Three people were held hostage in the company's office when Han entered, but one of them managed to escape and alert other people in the building, she said. The two others negotiated with the man for about one hour but failed to resolve the dispute. Han demanded 4,500 yuan (660 dollars) in unpaid wages from the Xinjiang Beixin Road and Bridge Construction Co, state media reported. The two company employees tried to flee as Han detonated the explosives, killing himself instantly, Xiao said. Both of the hostages were injured but not in critical condition, she said. State media said one of the company employees suffered facial injuries and the other suffered minor injuries to his hands. The use of explosives and small bombs by people involved in business and personal disputes is relatively common in some parts of China, where crude explosives are widely available.
