This is one of the more balanced articles on the current political turmoil in Thailand. It seems the rest of the western media is churning out pro-government analyses, which does injustice to the Thais who have suffered years of corrupt and abusive rule by TRT/PPP. The real question remains to be solved: How can Thailand get rid of corrupt and abusive governments using the democratic path?
'Bangkok people know what's going on. The people in the provinces don't know' Yeah, you're right. Since they're so stupid, take away their right to vote. It will be much easier to have a Bolshevik uprising in ten years.
The message here is, the voters are imbeciles, so we will run out of office any government they elect. Oh, and since the military and police don't really care for the government either, they'll let these goons run wild. Hello...Democracy? Thailand's calling. It said don't let the door hit you on your way out!
Then again, maybe the PAD goons have a point. After all, the U.S. Constitution as originally drafted only untrusted the right to vote with white landowning males, and even then they created the electoral college just in case the masses got it wrong.
Whilst in agreement accepting that the previous leader was totally corrupt and possibly the current leader as well. The Thais have accepted a democratic choice of election of office and government. They have voted. Further to this until a new election of such, opposition/people could and can make an issue of demonstration against the elected government, however, in moderation. But there is a limit to demonstration which is acceptable.
I support the PAD, though it has to be done in the correct and proper manner. This includes peaceful and democratic resolves.
I and my wife love thailand, the people and the king.
