They are caught between a rock and a hard place ... no pun intended.

If they actually regulated building and environmental factors and paid labor reasonable salaries (to buy good reliable homes) then they would be able to make structures withstand a 7.9 quakes and people could afford them.

But then they would become just like the United States and their pool of cheap expendable labor would vaporize.

I was in a 7.8-7.9 quake in L.A. and for the most part nothing happened except a few bridges got damaged. The shear wall of the building I was in fractured, just like it should to absorb the impact.

Because McCarthyism is presently dead. It is definitely trying to make a comeback with terrorists being the new commie, but until that happens, in the U.S., only the courts can determine who is a terrorist with due process, unless you have the misfortune of being labelled a terrorist before being legally declared a terrorist, which is obviously a catch 22 and a path to McCarthyism.

'Because McCarthyism is presently dead. '

It isn't 'McCarthyism' to reject a worthless idiot who reflexively sides with the nations enemies and wants to help them destroy the country that you view with contempt. Pack your savage ass up and leave, parasite.

That is called delusion and also does not display any of the qualities of a democracy, nor is it civil.

However, it does display the essential element of the Bush administration: polarization, delusion and hate for others. Thank you for your superb example.

Peace be with you. May you, or your child, marry a muslim and help integrate the world.

That is called holding you accountable for your words and attitude.

'nor is it civil.'

Drop dead.

'However, it does display the essential element of the Bush administration: polarization, delusion and hate for others.'

When you have some arab loser taking to the internet and continually whining about the country that has given him sanctuary since probably 1994 (Northridge earthquake was only 6.7...) it inspires a certain amount of contempt regardless of the administration at hand.

I never hated anyone by the way, until I saw the people you constantly side with fly aircraft full of people in to buildings full of people.

'Peace be with you. '

May you rest in peace soon.

It is as bad as smashing a nuke into a populated civilian city. Both are immoral and contemptible and should not be done. I support no such action and would never do such a thing, nor support anyone else who did. I stand for the opposite behavior.

Peace be with you.

'It is as bad as smashing a nuke into a populated civilian city.'

???? To end a world war that we didn't start?

Nice shot at moral equivalence but it is a transparent excuse to justify your own bigotry, anti-Americanism, antisemitism and downright stupidity. Regardless, how do you explain the terrorist attacks in India and the Sudan and Algeria and Afghanistan and New York and Pakistan and Israel and Russia and Chechnya and the Philippines and Indonesia and Nigeria and England and Thailand and Spain and Egypt and Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia and Ingushetia and Dagestan and Turkey and Kabardino-Balkaria and Morocco and Yemen and Lebanon and France and Uzbekistan and Gaza and Tunisia and Kosovo and Bosnia and Mauritania and Kenya and Eritrea and Syria and Somalia and California and Argentina and Kuwait and Virginia and Ethiopia and Iran and Jordan and United Arab Emirates and Louisiana and Texas and Tanzania and Germany and Australia and Pennsylvania and Belgium and Denmark and East Timor and Qatar and Maryland and Tajikistan and the Netherlands and Scotland and Chad and Canada and China and Nepal and the Maldives and pretty much wherever islamists bump in to humanity? All payback for Nagasaki? Please...

'I support no such action and would never do such a thing, nor support anyone else who did.'

You have made excuses for and sought to legitimize islamist terrorism all over this forum. You are a disgusting hypocrite.

'Peace be with you.'

Such hypocrisy, you make me sick with your Orwellian, sanctimonious newspeak. Peace was going for a walk on the Brooklyn promenade on the morning of 9/11/01.

I will not submit to islam and see it as morally correct to help the Israelis defend themselves from the barbarity that is thrown at them by your pet monsters... Therefore the savages you advocate for have determined that there will be no peace.

Best luck to all the Chinese who were effected by this horrible tragedy and my condolences to those who have lost loved ones. From this distance I can only hope that things start to go well for the rescue and recovery and that people can start putting their lives back together.
