The people responsible (the generals) for this should be held accountable as in the world court for crimes against humanity!
No Chris there is no humor in your comment. I'm assuming that you are trying to be funny. This is a human calamity of far greater proportions than Katrina and your attempt to compare it is not funny.
Chris.... That seems like a very plausible hypothesis.
To tdemex: I agree...
Winston, there is no humor in a calamity, true. You are aware of what happens though when you assume, right?
to Winston
No calamity is funny... just noting that disaster brings out the best or worst in people. I still don't understand why our federal government dragged their feet when Katrina hit - and they WERE turning back people/trained experts who wanted to help. We're supposed to be prepared for terrorism, but a hurricane is a slow moving/predictable disaster - CNN showed more info to the people than our leader knew - and 'Brownie' had been doing a 'hell of a job'??? I'll never forget images of New Orleans people on rooftops with 'HELP' signs - I was in CA and figured the same would have happened with an earthquake there. Burma/Myanmar is ruled by military - the US is now ruled/divided by politics. Disasters happen most everywhere and Americans will always be willing to help other countries or each other - we have a good country.
I agree with you. There is no getting away from the pathetic late response of the US Government and State of Lousiana but my point was there is also not much comparison. If there is a comparison to be made it probably is more akin to Mao Zedong's refusal to confess to the West that his people were starving. In 1959-62 he presided over the largest famine in modern history and refused to allow the West to help because it would have shown what a failure his revolution had become. Likewise the Generals in Myanmar/Burma are afraid of letting the world see the poverty in their country.
I too agree that the state of discourse among our leaders is dreadful. The American people are incredibly generous and the attitude used to be 'can do' rather than 'who's fault?'. We need to get back to working together rather than being so mean spirited.

Hmmm - the government is blocking aid workers from helping disaster victims... sounds like the Republicans after Katrina. I wonder if the blocked Burmese region is one that doesn't overwhelmingly support their current administration????
