Pope calls for solidarity with people of Myanmar

Rome - Pope Benedict XVI has been following the clashes between opposition groups and the military in Myanmar 'with great concern,' he said on Sunday after praying the Angelus at his summer residence Castel Gandolfo. Talking about the exceptionally serious events in Myanmar, the pope expressed his 'spiritual closeness' to its suffering population at this time. Benedict also called on all Catholics to pray in solidarity, in the hope of a 'peaceful solution for the good of the country.' The pope also told the faithful to include the Korean peninsula in their prayers as important developments in the dialogue between North and South Korea generated hope 'that the powers of reconciliation will really be strengthened.'
