Bangkok - Thailand's Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn and his royal consort Princess Srirasm will attend Malaysia's 50th independence anniversary celebrations, the foreign ministry announced Thursday.
Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej, 79, and Queen Sirikit, 75, have designated the prince to attend the celebrations Friday as their representatives at the invitation of Malaysian Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, the foreign ministry said in a statement.
The prince and his consort will attend the celebrations Friday morning at Merdeka Square Stadium in Kuala Lumpur and observe the National Day parade.
On Friday afternoon they will attend an afternoon tea hosted by Sultan Mizan and his royal consort at the Istana Negara Palace.
'His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn's presence in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Malaysia's independence will further enhance the over 50 year long-established cordial relations between Thailand and Malaysia and will further strengthen the friendship and mutual understanding among the peoples of the two countries,' said the foreign ministry.
