Man sends finger to Japanese premier in protest

Tokyo - A Japanese rightwing radical cut off his finger and sent it to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to protest the premier not visiting a shrine to Japan's World War II dead, reports said Thursday. The Yasukuni shrine in Tokyo honours 2.8 million war dead, including war criminals. On August 15, the 62nd anniversary of the end of the war, Abe and his cabinet ministers - except for one - refrained from visiting the shrine. Previous premier Junichiro Koizumi drew strong protests from China and South Korea for going to the shrine every year during his five-year premiership. The package containing the little finger, a protest letter and a DVD was opened by one of Abe's LDP party workers.
