Picture made available on 09 May 2008 of an aerial view by IKONOS-satellites from an altitude of 681 kilometers showing the flooded Irrawaddy-Delta region, Myanmar, 07 May 2008. About 47 villages within that area were hit severely by cyclone Nargis a few days ago. Myanmar officials have not yet engaged themselves in further correcting the number of deaths (23,000) and missing people (42,000). Observers, however, assume that a few tens of thousands were killed. About one million people are homeless, 60 per cent of which are women and children. The military junta declared foreign helpers to be undesired, regardless of hundreds of thousands of needy victims. Relief supply, however, may be delivered to the airport in Yangon. Photo: IKONOS © CRISP, NUS 2008, distributed by European Space Imaging EPA/IKONOS CRISP /EUROPEAN SPACE IMAGING /
