Unfortunately, Chinese people know little of the true situation in Tibet, because they can see only the Chinese government censored reports. They do not hear of the 1.2 million Tibetans killed by Chinese since 1950. They do not hear about the kidnapping of the Panchen Lama, and his replacement by the Chinese government by a false Panchen Lama. They do not even hear of the 100 Tibetans killed by Chinese police during the recent protests, but only about the 20 Chinese killed by angry Tibetans. They do not hear that the Chinese government repeatedly ignores the offers of peace talks by the Dalai Lama, but instead they hear lies about the Dalai Lama 'inciting unrest against the Chinese'. They do not hear a true history of TIbet, but hear only that it was part of China. In fact it was never Chinese, but only from time to time, an unwilling part of the Chinese Empire.,
If the Chinese people were allowed to hear the truth about Tibet, they would change their ideas. But the Chinese government has censorship laws that make telling the truth illegal.
I have heard this number before from the Tibetan living in exile.
1.2 million Tibetan's killed by the Chinese since 1950????
Let us think about this number ... in 1950 the census of the region states that there were about 1 million people in 1.2 million square kilometers of the Chinese province of Tibet. Now there are about 2.4 million ethnic Tibetans in the region.
Trying to propose the Chinese murdered 1.2 million in a time period the ethnic Tibet population more than doubled just makes no sense.
You Tibetan supporters really have to become better liars. At least make your lies believable.
This time, the sick and stupid performance of Zangdu and the Western media really cross the line. They are stupid enough to use fake photos and photoshoped photos to fool its own people and believe they will not be caught. And when they are caught, they dare to say they are free to lie because of China's 'human rights' records. They sucessfully fool their own people, but this time, NOT CHINESE.
I have no information on Tibet's populationm in 1950, but it is currently estimated that there are about 6 million Tibetans. 1.2 million deaths, some during the brutal invasion of 1950, some during the equally brutal suppression of the popular uprising of 1959, and some from the ongoing imprisonment, torture and killing of Tibetans who are not grateful for the imprisonment of their country means that the death rate is about 20%. That is enough to ensure that every Tibetan family has been affected.
And yet the Chinese are surprised when Tibetans show anger towards them!
As for lies, the real experts are the Chinese government, who have managed to fool most of their populace.
They never give the Tibetan side of the story, and so most Chinese are shocked when they hear it,and see the documented evidence to show that they have been told gross lies.
They also tell their people lies about Tiananmen Square (just some 'anti-government malcontents'), about Taiwan ('The people of Taiwan really want to join China, but it is their evil democratically-elected government that prevents it') about Falun Gong ('promoters of suicide' despite a complete lack of credible evidence - but a nice turn in government created false evidence, such as a fiery suicide in Tiananmen Square, when government owned tv cameras 'just happened' to be on hand to capture the action). The list of government lies is endless.
It seems natural nowadays to call pro-china people as a result of Chinese censor of the real news of Tibet. Well, when the Chinese people started peacefully protesting in London when the torch came by, most newspapers seemed blind (except for the Guardian and New York Times) to what they had to say. They only focused on the 'peaceful' pro-Tibet protests firedistinguishing the flame or physically grabbing the torch. When the 'peaceful' pro-Tibe protesters were sealed in by London Police for civil violations, they complain that they are not allowed to speak freely while the quiet Pro-China protesters are allowed to wonder about.
I don't really have a point, just want to speak out on what happend in London.
And shame on Sarchozy, his popularity shot down faster to De Gaulle, from 70% to 20% in months, now he picks on China to boost his popularity.
What is the world coming to.
from the first day when CHINA got the Game 2008, at the same day was GAME OVER.
and now they become world´s enemy, and most of the HAN-chinese are not friendly, and they might facing problems where they live.
actually those oversea han-chinese can help CCP become better party, but seems they supports CCP become even worst.
the anger will increasing everywhere.....if those chinese won´t wake-up.
Supporters of Tibetans are not anti-Chinese. They are just anti-oppressive government. In very many cases they are also opposed to the war in Iraq, and against other actions around the world that diminish human rights. Anti-Tibetans seem purely to be pro-Imperialists, imposing the Chinese government's will on the Tibetan people, regardless of genuine Tibetan rights and aspirations.
Cannot get population statistics for Tibet????
I mean how hard is it to put in 'tibet population' into google. There are many entries there. The current Tibet ethnic population in the Chinese province of Tibet is not any where near 6 Million claimed. The total population today is around 2.6 million in this Chinese Tibetan province. Of which 2.4 million are ethnic Tibetan's.
I encourage anyone interested to verify the numbers and draw there own conclusion.
You Tibetan exile group people really have to understand many of us will not believe your and the western media lies. We do our own research.
And for the deaths in Tibet in the 1950's. This was caused by the Chinese province Tibetan governor, the Dalai Lama, and the CIA backing with arms, explosives and terrorist training for his terrorist group. If the governor from China, the current Dalai Lama did not try to seccede from China and overthrow with force the government of China, when China was trying to get rid of serfdom and slavery that the Dalai Lama supported (he personally owned most of Tibet, the Chinese government does not support private ownership of land) - then many Chinese Tibetan's would not have been endangered from this callous and self-centered focus on the Dalai Lama's part to keep and control power in himself.
More evidence that the Dalai Lama does not give a damn about his people!
If the figures themselves are not reliable, it does not change the widely held Tibetan view that there has been a great slaughter, and that every family has been affected. And it does not exonerate the Chinese lies about slavery. All the stories that were written about Tibet before 1950 portrayed a people proud of their culture, and of their independence.
Nobody is advocating a return to the relative poverty of those times. For China to take the credit for the material advances since that time is rather like the Japanese government taking credit for the changes it brought to Manchukuo during its reign there.
The Dalai Lama is asking for nothing more than greater Tibetan autonomy over their own affairs. This has angered many Tibetans, who say he should be demanding actual independence.
Inside China you cannot find any news about the Dalai Lama asking the rioters to stop, about promoting peace, about his wishing the Olympic Games to go ahead in Beijing peacefully, or anything positive at all. Instead, you hear only childishly nonsensical condemnations of a 'devil with a human face'. The Chinese government is not interested in truth. It is interested only in its own warped view of reality.
He Bo, first of all I have no idea why the chinese ppl in london was protesting against... I mean what was the purpose?? We Tibetans are protesting for human rights and for freedom … and the Chinese are protesting at us because??? We Tibetans are the ones who are being oppressed and seggragated that’s why we are protesting … and the Chinese were protesting at us about what???? Because the news report say that Tibetans killed a handful of Chinese ppl??? What about all those ppl they killed??? What about all the monastries they destroyed??? Don’t we have a right and a reason to protest?? So then why are the Chinese protesting?? Are they protesting against us because we kept quite for a long time or something?? I mean it was hilarious … watching the Chinese ppl protesting, carrying their bloody flags and singing or something … without any reason … We are shown in the news more because we are fighting for something unlike the Chinese in London who were just there to show that they support communist activities …
Zephon, for someone who does his own research u are one bad researcher!! CIA?? Dalai Lama supporting slavery?? What?? China trying to get rid of slavery in Tibet?? What are u talking about? From the looks of it you must have been educated in China eh? And the comment on Dalai Lama wanting everyone to spin our prayers wheels and think about him! You know u should start writing a novel or science fiction about it! No one would believe you but at least ppl could at least laugh at all these ideas presented by you. I think I should take ur comments show it to my class of humanities … maybe they’ll have a good laugh... like a small break time joke! I noticed that in every comment u have something hateful to say about Dalai Lama … why do u hate him so much?? I don’t understand anyone hating him unless he works for the Chinese govt.! Just wanted to say that you are wrong .. and we Tibetans don’t care if u don’t believe our truths … as long as ppl who matter believe … Bhod Gyalo! Free Tibet!
The Chinese police exercised extreme restrained which may, I have to admit, have been a ploy.
It was telling that the during the recent Lhasa riots in Tibet Autonomous Region in China the police who over there is usually known for 'crackdowns' did not do so. They didn't even use tear gas. Only batons and shields and even then withdrew. It was also telling that some of the police were too busy filming the Tibetans attacking unarmed civilians, looting, and burning buildings or otherwise committing illegal acts of violence.
So there was no crackdown so STOP writing lies. We all know the truth. We are a worldwide network working together with the Chinese, even though we ourselves are not Chinese. They have helped us in the past and we are now returning the favor.
The Tibetans who live outside of China are no longer citizens of China. That was there choice. They no longer have a say in Chinese matters, whether it be Tibet Autonomous Region in China or any other part of China.
I would like to address this to my Chinese brothers and sisters worldwide:
Over the past few days, WAIT! Over the past few years it has been clear to me that the so-called mainstream media in the west, as mouthpieces spewing the propaganda and agenda of their governments, are intent to derail China's ascend in the New World.
That is what WE, and I mean not only the Chinese in China, but ALL Chinese worldwide must adamantly guard against.
WE MUST continue to excel at what we do as individuals and continue to fine tune our networks worldwide and we MUST connect with friendly countries in Asia, Latin America, Africa, Middle East, Pacific islands, and Eastern Europe: the New World. This in parallel with what the Chinese government has been doing through its diplomats.
I think we must 'harden' ourselves and get used to the sentiment that a handful of countries i.e. US, UK, France, and Germany are trying to create against China. As China ascends to the top spot it will become a bigger target for all kinds of grievances. It will feel lonelier at the top, but remember China has many friends in the New World, so know that our friends will be there for us.
Remember this: jealousy exhibits itself through actions; so be aware of it. Know that that's why the media of these 4 countries are doing what they are doing. Take comfort that the truth and that the side of good will always prevail.
I wholeheartedly believe that NOW we MUST also interfere in the internal affairs of the 4 before mentioned countries and give them a taste of their own medicine.
First I should say I'm Chinese, and I love my country. About the Tibet issue, I know a little before this riot. But one thing which impressed me is that when i was still in high school, alomst seven years ago,my history teacher said that tibetant people were very rich. His explaination was that the costume tibetant people wore at festivals cost about 300,000. A big sum of money impressed me. Still now. Actually our government have treated them very well as some of the comments describes. I'm a typical apolitical Chinese student. I like news about stars more. But this time I feel upset or sad about the foreign countries' responcse to this issue. They don't care about how many innocent people were killed, but saying boycotting Olympics. I wanna say you are stupid. If you got a little sense, you believe Chinese government will not let this kind of thing happen before Olympics. Chinese government are procecuting average people!? That's ridiculous. Your media are free, free to make news. I know how you get news to brodcast all the day. To be objective, I guess or believe when dealing with this issue the government used some crutal ways and that's why the government still doesn't present proofs. It's certain dealing with this riot must cause deaths, to avoid further harm. As one of the commentor says, 'How many people have you killed in Iraq ,Americans?' After this issue, I really have a strong kind of sense hating America, Britain, France...and you people.
It is amazing how brain washed and greedy the Chinese posters are on this board. To suggest that the Dalai Lama is Chinese is ludicrous. Tibetans are considered an ethnic minority by official standards, and that is what is taught in schools. Tibet's association with China begins in the mid 13th century when the Mongols acquired both. Up until that time Tibet was a completely separate country. Tibet at one time even controlled more physical territory than China. Chinese have always rejected Mongol rule. So this insistence that Tibet is theirs can only be legitimized by saying that they are Mongols. Let us keep in mind that the Mongols went as far north and west as Moscow Russia. So their argument would give a claim to the Russians too. The argument of Tibet being part of China makes Mongolia part of China too.
Hi,lbasd! How silly you are. Have you read over the comment? Does the teacher described the fact means washing brain. You are doing the same thing as CNN. Or maybe your country has the tradition.
The fact is that as for me I dont remember any kind of text book talks about Tibet, not like Taiwan. And we Chinese students are not that stupid to be washed. I must say the attendance rate is the lowest for courses like ' Thoughts of Mao Zedong.'
Americans killing Iraq innocent people. That's cracking down terrorism.
Chinese killed criminals. That's ruining human rights.
