'The opposition accused Chavez of governing like a dictator.'
What have you created Venezuela?
Quite simple, they dislike it being stripped of their privileges. For decades the wealth of the nation has been divided amongst a small oligarchy, typical latin american situation. They even controlled all the media to make sure it would remain this way .Then there was a landslide election victory of Chavez, interrupted by a fluked coup d ' etat ' another landslide vitory at the polls from Chavez .Since he came to power the poorest parts of the population have gained in education opportunities and better health care.Somebody lost in the count ,indeed the old oligarchy had to trade in a lot of it's power and revenues .Of course the got used at having elections without any real affect except some minor cosmetical changes .Tought imes for them,so now the are desperate and are trying to gain back their influence in a way that they always claimed to be undemocratical when the left used it:street violence.
