Unwisely calculated risk the Ethiopian government took, has come to haunt them. Intervining in neighbor countries, while there is still problem at home was very stupid decision to begin with. Whether the Islamists are backed by others or not, it was inevitable that the Somali people would have fought Ethiopia anyway. Anyone who has a slightest knowledge of Ethiopian and Somali peoples’ past history know that they do not trust each other. I think Meles got in to this war thinking he can divert attention from his own political problems at home. He also wants to impress U.S. and get aid and political backing from U.S. I am sure he will receive some support in the name of terrorism; however, history has repeatedly shown that the U.S. government will give their back once they gain what they want. They did remove the democratically elected government from Congo and put Mobutu, (just to turn around and accuse him of human right violation…), Manuel Noriega of Panama, etc... What Meles needs to do now is try to find political solution to the Somali’s problem, and make peace with his rival country Eritrea.
I hope one day African people will learn to decide their destiny by themselves and stop depending on western leaders to tell them what to do. I hope their will rise a leader in Ethiopia who will stand against western oppressors and not be their puppy.
Our Somali bothers and sisters should get united more and get rid off the invader Woyane(TPLF) a minority rebels leaded by Meles Zenawi. We Ethiopians believe that Melese Zenawi is not only the enemy of Ethiopia, but he is also the number one enemy of Africa, and we hope that Somalis understand that. All Africans, east Africans in particular, should come together to free themselves from the traitors like Zenawi who betray Africa for the interest of Westerns.
Allah Bless Somalia!
What an analytical mind Mr. Hagos has, and his mockery despite all what is happening is an indicator of who he really is and why he is saying the things he says.
It is not the Ethiopian troops in Somalia, it is Meles Zenawi's troops. The invasion is opposed by all Ethiopians, opposition groups inside and outside Ethiopia. It was done by Meles Zenawi in order to get money and military weapon from the United States in order to kill the democratic aspiration of the Ethiopian people.
It is the darkest day for Ethioipian History. Ethioipia had never invaded any country in its entire long history. Now Meles Zenawi a leader from Tigary, a minority group invading a neighbouring country in order to survive in power for himself and few of the privilged Tigrayan.
It is shame for USA, that it becomes an obstacle for democracy in Ethiopia.
The greates democratic country in the world is promoting dictatortship in Ethiopia.
It is the darkest moment for relationship between the USA and Ethiopia. USA supports a minority dictator in Ethiopia that is blocking democratic transition.
Sad and big sad for the USA to side with minority rulers in Ethioipia in the 21 Century.

I really could not understand what Tesfaye and Tolosa are saying (writing). Are they writing in English ?
What morons !!
I have been living in Ethiopia for quite a while, and it is wrong to say that no one here supports the Ethiopian military in giving assistance to the TFG in Somalia. It is clear that most opinions expressed above have no clue about the full truth here in Ethiopia or the reality of extremeist, radical Islamic forces in Somalia. Osama Bin Laden himself has been quoted in the Economist as saying that he views the Horn of Africa as his third front after Iraq and Afghanistan. Ethiopia is not the puppet of the US, despite what others here have said. Ethiopia acted in its own self interest and is paying a heavy price with both lives and money. The US has not provided any monetary return to Ethiopia for its role in Somalia. Of course, the US and Ethiopia share common interests in Somalia, and I think the US is pleased with the fact that Ethiopia has taken positive action with regard to the situation in Somalia. Ethiopia would have done it with or without US backing. If anyone thinks otherwise, they obviously don't know the Ethiopian mindset.
After all there is God!!
Please people show me where the war on terror has succeded? Iraq? Afghanistan? i bet not. Then this makes me wonder what meles was drinking when he decided to invade somalia. He won't be able to win the war no will Ethiopia be able to remain in somalia for a long time. Logistically and financially they are poor.
America will soon have an election in which democrat will win and that will be the end of meles occupation of somalia.
To all those in defense of the dictatorial regimen in Ethiopia:
The oppressed people of Ethiopia understand your position of defending EPDRF’s dictatorial regime! What did it really take for them to own your souls? 1,000 acres of land! I tell you my brothers and sisters it is not worth it! Start speaking truth, stand for justice, and join the alliance to defend the rule of law in Ethiopia while you can help it. You know it is not too late to start supporting the Ethiopian people longtime struggle for democracy.
I hope and pray most members, if not all, of “Melese Zenawi’s army” will come to their senses respectfully caring on their solemn duty of protecting the Ethiopian people from the enemy within.
I hope this misguided Army of Melese Zenwi will soon start to appreciate the essence of individual freedom, I hope they begin to defend the rule of law in their own homeland; I hope and pray they hold hands with oppressed people of Ethiopia in brotherhood and support the struggle for democracy.
By the way Melese Zenawi is a terrorist within the alliance, and it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out why he is exactly in Somalia, we also know why his devilment is being overlooked by civilized nations.
After all God is alive!

You are asking members of the gallant Ethiopian force to upraise and overthrow the government. Do you really want the country to repeat its 1966 mistake? The uprising that brought Mengistu with his red terror to the peaceful Ethiopians will not be repeated again. Bloodshed does not bring democracy. Please wake up! This is not the 20 century. Democracy can only be achieved by peaceful struggle.
Are you mengistu’s daughter? He, his family and his cadres are the people who benefited from the 1966 uprising
I belive in honostnes and breavnes of Ethiopian army(troops) no one was gone to yemen and will not do that. this allegation is the dream of Issayas Afeworky.
most ordinary Ethiopians Supporting our troops and our Government!
the regime in ethiopia has not made the rational choice he deserves to make it in 2002,once the EEBC verdict is released in the hague neitherlands. the regime has opted the temporary smilling face of USA to serve and pracitice thier policy in the region and so that time is a factor and leading us to the ultimatum of the regime life span inevitably .
if the regime could have accepted the verdict and implemented the demarcation, the five years stalemate would have been the time for healing and reconcliation to both countries. the both sisterly countries would have also bring about absolute peace in somalia in fullfiling the aspirations of somali people.
it is not about the fugitive soldiers led to yemen solely but the fate of the people and defence forces of the federal ethiopia. the same history of menigistu regime is appearing through the window to blow the regime in ethiopia like never expected to some powerful supporters of the regime. the regime will recieve the verdict of the massess of the ethiopia once and for all!
the question here is when is the USA will think and recosider their stance on the regime! probably the USA will now realize their alliance with ethiopian regime and their achievement so far is disgusting , and so that will shift thier balance to the realistic solution and search for it.
the USA need also responsible envoys not like their jaddy frezer's or thier acting ambassador in ethiopia leads to unwarranted proceedings around thier diplomatic arena, some times I suspect they got personnaly and emotionally involved to the facts of the region. other wise the unusuall USA would be totally tarnished and get emberrassed infront of the other international community. already the USA reputation is compormised since some time back!.
to my conclusion, i believe no matter what happens with in both the sisterly countries eritrea and ethiopia or somalia or any more countries the people will be remaining there the same and so that need to shape our destiny together by avoiding interferences and being the lords of our plans and policies.

why on earth any Ethiopian oppose the victory of Ethiopian army . i can understand if Eritrean and their slaves stand against it. do you know why the whole world except Eritrea did not at least condemn the act openly. it is b/s every one is happy with the result .and Meles proved as usual that he is brilliant

It makes me sick to my stomuck to read stupid comments about the situation unfolding in Somalia. Who in the right mind would think that Meles Zenawi got in to this mess to divert home grown pressure unless those who want to make a political benefit out of this war. What is the pressure? this is what many people fail to understan. The present day Ethiopia is not the Ethiopia that you know ten years ago. Hate can never be considered pressure. The past regimes in Ethiopia tried to pressure people accept their political agenda by force. It didn't work, rather it egnited a wide spread resistance and teh result you know it exile to most of you and your families. It is the same old song that has been ringing in our ears for years now. A song co-ordinated and put in display by few blood suckers in the diaspora and their ill-minded supporter in Eritrea. Meles as you may recall got in to Addis Ababa wearing plastic shoes, yet he invisioned the kind of Ethiopia that he can pass on to the next generation. He has done extraordinary job despite the fact that he is pocked and disturbed by so many of you who don't want to see this country move forward specially if it is done by a person from north. Since he is doing things colorfully that most of you fail to do, you don't have any other option but to try hard until you don't breaht any more. You can write what ever pleases you sitting on your comfortable chair, but the reality is not on the chair you or your propellers are sitting, rather it is on the ground of Ethiopia and its neibors. Any Ethiopian with the true sense of integrity would like to see a prosporous Ethiopia that is being build by hard working Ethiopians. Having said this let me tell you what really is going to happen to the situation that is in somalia. This fighting is not about Somaia and Ethiopia, it is about Eritrean gang's jelous and boiled mind wanting to see a marginalized Ethiopia. What is going to happen is that before his term is over, Meles will frost Issaias Afewerki. The only thing that you will see is the pictures of Issaias Afewerki scattered on the streets of Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, Sudan Yemen and Djibouti. since he will not be alive any more to harm or help harm Ethiopia and Ethiopians. As a result, the people of Ethiopia and somalia wil live side by side graciously.
Somali leaders call for immediate and unconditional withdrawal of invading Ethiopian forces

Asmara, 18 April 2007 – Somali leaders who have been holding a meeting here from April 10 to 17 on the objective situation in their country have called for the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of the invading Ethiopian forces.
In a joint communiqué they issued following their week-long meeting, the Spokesman of the Somali Parliament, Sherif Hassan Sheik Aden, the Chairman of the Executive Council of the Union of Islamic Courts (UIC), Sheik Sheirf Sheik Ahmed and Eng. Hussein Mohammed Farah Aideed expressed thanks to the Government of Eritrea and particularly to President Isaias Afwerki for the role he is playing to promote a solution to the Somali issue by the Somali themselves. They asserted that the people of Somalia have the capacity and potential to resolve their issue themselves.
In the 11- point joint communiqué, the Somali leaders referred to the 15 failed peace processes starting from 1991 due to external interferences, they underlined that first and foremost the invading forces should withdraw if national reconciliation is to be achieved as well as peace and stability to be ascertained in Somalia.
The Somali leaders further pointed out that “the so-called peacekeeping force is a ‘Trojan horse’ for the TPLF regime’s invasion”, and they underscored that its silence and failure to take any measures in the face of the war crimes perpetrated against the Somali people by the regime proves such a conspiracy.
Pointing out that US policy in Somalia is a destructive one as it undermines the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in violation of the Charter principles of the AU and UN, they indicated that the facts on the grounds regarding Washington’s role confirms US support to the invading Ethiopian forces.
In conclusion, Sherif Hassan Sheik Aden, Sheik Sheirf Sheik Ahmed and Eng. Hussein Mohammed Farah Aideed disclosed that in the event the invading force does not withdraw peacefully, the Somali people have risen up in unison to drive it out by force.
The press conference at Hager Media Hall with in the premises of the Ministry of Information was broadcast live through ERI-TV, the Voice of the Broad masses of Eritrea and Aljazeera TV respectively, and was attended by a number of diplomats, local and foreign journalists and invited guests.
Most of you guys are sick in your mind. You know what Meles (the puppet) is doing to the Somalia people because he is getting supported by the US. Are you saying that he is not getting any help? If so what the hell do you think he is doing in Somalia? Isn’t he exchanging Ethiopian army for money? You know it and ever one in this planet know it as well. The Ethiopian soldiers have to leave immediately or the consequences of it will be disastrous like exactly what Wedi Afewerki said. 89 Ethiopian soldiers escaped to Yemen is just the beginning of the dissemination of the Ethiopian army. Just watch patiently and you will see more and more of this. If they don't escape and safe their life then the will be buried alive in Somalia land. So, please don't make your self look stupid and be aware of the situation. Not only the Ethiopian army will run away but Meles him self will scape to exile like what Mengustu have done in the past. Just sit and watch morons.
Dear Aware:
Your inference is completely wrong! I am not related to Mengistu Hailemariam in blood or otherwise. In fact, like most Ethiopian Family’s, my family and I had been victimized by his brutal dictatorial regime.
In any case I am struggling to comprehend the significance of your erroneous assumptions! And I would like you to help me out.
Assume the judicial system in Ethiopia is functioning “independently” and you are the presiding judge in the courtroom, you are not Kemal Bedri rather the ideal ethical judge who utilizes his/her position to deliver equal justice to all Ethiopians abiding by your professional oath and fulfilling your civic duties to the best of your abilities. I am in your courtroom accused of either one of the following two crimes. In which one of the two cases would you find me responsible for crimes committed during the brutal Mengistu era?
1. I am 40 years old and I am in your courtroom charged for crimes committed by “my father”30 years ago, DNA result confirmed your assumption that “I am Mengistu’s daughter”
2. I am found not to be Mengistu’s daughter but I was charged for crimes committed during Mengistu’s era because I was a military who had served his dictatorial government. The DA had presented ample evidence showing that I shot and killed a number of innocent Ethiopians; many had testified that I had tortured them.
Society expects judges to be fair the same way policemen and members of the military are expected to defend the rule of law. No body should be above the law including Prime Minister Melese Zenawi. In addition all Ethiopians citizens should have equal protection of the law. It is against the Ethiopian constitution to take life unjustly. As we all know, the government of Ethiopia had been found guilty of using excessive force against innocent civilians by its own commission
Just like you, I am an advocator of peaceful resistance against injustice and as such I hope Ethiopians will come together to peacefully end injustice in Ethiopia. Peacefully demanding for natural and democratic rights is a citizenry obligation of every member of society including the military and the judiciary and should not be interpreted as a call for bloodshed.
P.S. I wish so called “brilliant” Melese Zenawi was to utilize his intelligence for the betterment of the lives of the Ethiopian people. What a waste, brilliance with severely compromised vision!
After all God is watching!
