Deomocratizing Ethiopia has never been and will never be easy as long as the fundations of democracy are respected. We Ethiopians who wish the betterment of our people and our country join hand to hand and be able to identify bad from good on its natural venue. What has been taking place on the streets of the USA and Europe is unforgivable and unforgetable. We saw everything and we witnessed judgement on our people by the very people who tell us that they stand for

I think you live in one of the western countries. But those countries did not achieve their Democratic governance overnight. Decomocrcy is not an event. It is a process and the participant must understand it in order to achieve its purpose. Even if Kinigit was the winner of the 2005 election, that does not necessarily means Ethiopia could have achieved democracy by now or in 10 years time. It could have been even worse. Look what happened to the party after its leaders were sent to prison. Now the party is divided into 2 major factions. This is a party that could not govern itself let alone a country that has enormous challenges. No individual or party can bring democracy to Ethiopia as long as its people are living under the cloud of famine. The country's economic condition must be improved first before all Ethiopian can enjoy a full democracy. I can give you one example: China. They have one of the worlds’ undemocratic government. But look what is happening to the Chinese in the last few years. Economics forces are forcing the government to change its domestic polices.

Dear paticipants I would like to make it clear, we Ethiopians have no business in somalia except Meles and his pupet organization TPLF.As you might aware our Elected leaders are lubgushing in proson, and you might heard many times the western mass campain calling Mugabe as absolute dictator, however they call to the tyriny Meles democract eg recent Mr Bush comment on Meles. any way there is no secret Meles is an agent for the west and is not serving Ethiopia.

Where I live is not relevant, therefore I will focus on the real issues that are impacting upon the lives of our people as well as on our personal daily lives.
Democracy you said “is not an event…..it is a process and participant must understand it in order to achieve its purpose.” ……may be you are right in saying that democracy is not an event, but I would like you to clarify the following questions:
1. What is Democracy? And what is its purpose?
2. Who are the participants that are failing to understand democracy in Ethiopia and continue to grossly violate the natural and citizenry rights of the Ethiopian people?
At this point I would like to direct your attention to a paragraph taken from the declaration of independence written by President Thomas Jefferson in 1776 (Keep in mind we are in 2007)
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government…..”
In my opinion neither democracy nor autocracy are cultures or processes they are forms of governments. Autocratic governments rule by force violating the people’s natural rights including the right to live, while democratic governments respect the rights of the people they govern. Unfortunately your phrase democracy is a process is being repeatedly used in an attempt to justify the unpopular actions of “friendly autocrats”

Chain VS Ethiopia:
In order for Ethiopia to progress economically what Ethiopia needs is not dictatorship like China, but good education and fair taxation like Chain. Meles Zenawi has been quoted recently saying “we do not need Doctors in Ethiopia” and that shows the extent of his vision for his country. He has unlimited access to health care so he does not care as to what happens to the rest of the population health wise. His vision for the country and for the people he governs is basically nonexistent. Unlike Melese, Hu Jintao is a nationalistic and his dream has been to make China a superpower, he has facilitated the growth of several industries in China. Melese and his government dream about their personal account in Swiss Bank, their greatest challenge is to please donor countries so they can collect a fat check on behalf of the poor people they misgovern.

I believe Thomas Jefferson was the 3rd president of the United States, but how was the life of the blacks during his presidency. Even though he preached those words, those words were meaningless for those blacks who lived at that time. It took more than 150 years for the United States to get where it’s now. Even today, peoples’ rights are being systematically violated, especially during voting time. That means even in America, Thomas Jefferson’s words have not fully materialized as of yet.
To your response to China VS Ethiopia,
I think Hu Jintao was elected in 2003. For china “education and fair taxation” are recent phenomena. What I’m trying try to compare china with Ethiopia is when China was under those autocrat leaders. I’m trying to compare apple with apple. ….What brought Mr. Jintao to power is the recent economic boom.
Let me tell you something, I’m not a fun of Meles. I don’t agree with so many of his policies. However, he has done some outstanding jobs since he left school and joined TPLF.
Why you failed to mention the infighting that is going within the Kinigit party? Their drama clearly shows that they are not ready for Prime time. Kinigits is the same as Derg. Do you remember what happened to Ethiopia when member of the derg fought each other to claim power? Siad Barre almost reached Addis Ababa. The same could have happen if Kinigit is the party in power at this time.
Let me remind you what Hailu Shawel told his supporters to do to protest the result of 2005 election. “…… stop doing business with those who support EPRDF.” This is the guy who preaches “democracy.” His mantra is full of arrogance and deceit. I’m glad he is not governing my country.

ethiopia must learn from its experience inorder to achieve peace and tranquility. ethiopian leaders are pscyhotic. they are such a leaders who never deffereniate between crab and fish. they live in their dreams not in reality.they always have stupid mentality of invading neiboughring countries. while 80% of ethiopian people live under poverty why should these ethiopian leaders give a deaf ear to their people.
i suggest ethiopian yougesters to have a thorough shake up in your thinking so you can have modrenized ideology that fits the prest world.

Democracy is not about the preferences of an individual it is about respecting the vote or the choice of the majority. Obviously after 2,000 plus years of totalitarian and/or dictatorial rule, you do not think we Ethiopians are NOT worthy of the respect of our God given natural rights; you believe that we are not ready for democracy or we do not deserve democracy. You believe that whatever the majority decide is always right and “democracy” can only be accomplished by majority vote. If the majority decided that a certain segment of the population cannot vote, then we can conclude that the minority should accept that fact because the issue was dealt democratically.
Before we build a democratic country, first we have to be able to coexist peacefully. For some people their paramount issue is not how they live with a democratic Ethiopia, but they just want separate from it. This is just one example. The country has been confronted with so many problems for centuries. These problems cannot be solved overnight. Quick fix does not work there. In fact it might lead us to even more problems.
There are so many theories that cannot be empirically proven in real life.
I said all these because I’m a very realistic person.
As long as Isayas stays in power that region will never have peace.Its not a war about Somalia, it’s a war between Ethiopians and eritreans, they just changed the venue from Bademe to Mogadishu. Meles luck readability with Ethiopian people even though the Ethiopians enjoy more freedom , peace and progress under his leadership than any of his predecessors, Isaias is a hard headed arrogant and ideologically corrupt leader. The two will do any thing and go any where to fight it out and they bring their nation into disaster. Somali is just another venue for the two stooges, may god help the somalians.

I am Somalian, I know well that Meles does not represent Ethiopian people, he is taking direct order from Bush, totally disregarding the people he claim to represent's own interest; Somalia and Ethiopia are next door to each other while USA is millian of miles away, hence, whatever, Meles will or have created will hurn the great people of Somalia and Ethiopia years to come, unless they reliase that Meles does not represent the Ethiopian, in fact, during recent years Meles was killing openly the Ethiopian. Meles's in disriminate mass killing inside Ethiopia makes rather more sick, because, for Somalia, he will loose within next few months. Currently, Meles Wayanne are either beig killed, captured or could not move outside their base and countless of them fleing to yemen and kenya.
The mission is now to seek Ethiopia without mad Meles and horn of without dict.
The reason Meles accepted to invade Somalia was clearly to grab American money and also distract world eyes from terrible atrocity his regime conducting inside Ethiopia; Summery execution and imprisonment without trial are common in Ethiopia now than ever before. Moreover, his regime is weak and unpopular as Somalia’s interim government and his troops although large in term of numbers, they are mostly conscript and ill equip to fight foreign train.
Hence, The Ethiopian troops lost nearly a thousand soldier from late January up to now according local experts and nearly one hundred soldiers fled to Yemen last months alone, also unknown number of Ethiopian soldier are hold in Somalia. The major risk for Meles’s regime is now the war is spreading inside Ethiopia as Ethiopian tribes such as Oromo (the Majority in Ethiopia) and Amhara trying to grab the opportunity this situation presenting.
as somalian brother, the melez and his tigrean militia massacered my peaple in their homes, in their country and their blood have been shed to the left and right, and no bady in the world cares about somalian people, in the history no country have ever win or concore some bady's home, always the soil and the native are the uper hand, and the history will judge again.
