Gunmen abduct expat in south-east Nigeria

Abuja - Four young gun-toting men on Tuesday abducted an expatriate in Nigeria, killing one policeman and critically injuring another in the process. The abduction took place in Owerri, the Imo State capital city in south-east Nigeria. Local reports said the gunmen trailed a vehicle in which the expatriate was travelling from Owerri airport into the city. A second policeman was critically injured from gunshot wounds he received from the kidnappers, who did not take anything from the vehicle. Imo State police spokesman, Isah Mohammed, said he had received a lot of telephone calls from offices of diplomats in Nigeria, including the British High Commission, but said there was no official report on the abduction yet. He added that the nationality of the abducted expatriate has not been identified yet. No organization has yet claimed responsibility for the abduction. Owerri has become a scene of abductions as domestic flights to south-south Nigeria land at the airport in the city as they are diverted from the Port Harcourt airport, which is undergoing repairs. Gunmen and militants in Nigeria should please release these abducted expatriates un-conditionally.These are innocent men who have come to Nigeria to
look for their daily-bread just as we are in their own country looking for our
daily-bread.They have no hands in the Nigerian Government and they should not
suffer unjustly.
