New Food Finds 2013 is an ongoing series on Monsters and Critics to celebrate the return of the Natural Foods Expo 2013 in Anaheim, CA., as well as artisan food companies and manufacturers who are doing it right, here in North America.
This week it includes some amazing seasonings and pickle newcomers!
We love to hear from small American and Canadian businesses that are putting out quality products. Recently we tried out two items that are worth spreading the word:
Zerocool Chilli Salt
Created by actor Don Elliott, this seasoned salt packs serious heat and makes a chili, soup or french fries stand at attention!
Elliott makes small batches using the finest ingredients. Zerocool’s line of gourmet chilli (yes two “L’s”) salt is completely made by hand, with nothing added to extend shelf life. It’s the perfect addition to your pantry and is made of Kosher sea salt, fresh habanero peppers, paprika and black pepper. This is a vegan, gluten-free, anti-caking agent free salt that perks up everything it touches.
Who knew a Canadian could be so spicy?!
Lynnae’s Gourmet Pickles
Mrs. Pickles and Hot Mama are two amazing hand-packed crunchy fabulous pickles. And we know a thing or two about a good pickle, being weaned on Wolfie’s cold tabletop deli pickles found in communal buckets in Miami during the Scarface days before South Beach was gussied up.
Lynnae’s uses the best cucumbers, perfectly balanced flavors of garlic, dill, and sweetness and all-natural ingredients without dyes or preservatives. Her pickles have a special history, thanks to a 100 year-old secret family recipe.
Lynnae hails from Washington, Oregon. Pickling is a family tradition for Lynnae, ever since her Great Grandma “Toots” passed down her secret recipe.
These delicious pickles are making their way down the west coast in various retail grocery outlets, but you east coasters can order them online.
It took years of people saying “you should be selling these” that finally gave Lynnae the confidence to go into business. We’re very happy she did just that, and we go into a mild panic when running low on the Hot Mama chips.
