By now, some of you may have heard rumour of an album called "Momofuku" and wonder what this record is... The absence of much advance notice or information might seem a little strange and perverse but the record was made so quickly that I didn\'t even tell myself about it for a couple weeks. So, what can I tell you about "Momofuku"? Well, obviously the title is a tribute to ...more

The dedication on Elvis Costello’s latest album reads “Remembering Momofuku Ando (1910-2007), he fed those who study.”  If you don’t know, Ando was the inventor of the ramen noodle and as Costello points out has been the gastronomical savior of many a poor college student.

Costello named the album after Ando because his latest album came together as easily as one of his inventions, just add water.  Costello is joined by his regular backup band The Imposters (Steve Nieve (keyboards), Pete Thomas (drums), and Davey Faragher (bass)) as well as artists like Jenny Lewis and Johnathan Rice.

The album was originally released as a vinyl album so that labeling is still present on the back of the CD, those trying to turn their CD over to “side two” will find nothing.  The tunes on this release may be the most personal of Costello’s career and the track that is probably most so is ‘My Three Sons’ about fatherhood (and not the classic television show).

The album is one that sounds like Costello’s best work, but he’s also having a good time with it.  It’s a welcome return by the master musician and as delicious and hot as the titular noodle after whom the album was named.
