Album Review: Kylie Minogue – ‘X’

By Jeff Swindoll Apr 2, 2008, 13:12 GMT

In 2005 Kylie Minogue’s Showgirl tour came to an unplanned stop when the singer was diagnosed with breast cancer.  She received treatment and now returns triumphantly to the studio to record her ‘X’ (tenth) album.

Not only that but she turned up in a guest spot on the Doctor Who episode “Voyage of the Damned” (2007).  Minogue has been more of an international success but did score in the United States with ‘The Loco-motion’ in 1988 and her ‘Fever’ album in 2002.

Hopefully she’s now poised to make a welcome return to hits in the states.

‘X’ has been out for around a year in the rest of the world and appears to be quite the smash and even reached Platinum status in her native Australia and the UK.

‘X’ is a fun romp and has a sexy feel to it. It reminded me of some 80s pop, which isn’t a bad thing to my ears, but it also has a bit of swagger as Kylie sings through several decades or styles (perhaps through the various decades that she’s been on the pop charts?).

She even has a bonus track featuring MIMS (“All I See”).  It is a welcome return and I wish her both the best in beating cancer as well as climbing the charts once again.
