Album Review: Kelis – ‘The Hits’

“My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard.”

Kelis is a singer that came onto the scene in 1999 with her debut album ‘Kaleidoscope.’  This new release collects all of her hits as well as some titles that she is featured on.  That’s a bit of a change since she’s not the main singer on those songs and more in the background.

For example, we get Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s “Got Your Money,” N.E.R.D.’s “Truth or Dare,” and Richard X’s “Finest Dreams.”  All of those only feature Kelis; she’s not the main singer on the track.

She returns the favor on some tracks and features Cee-lo (“Lil Star”), Too $hort (“Bobby”), Nas (“In Public,” very naughty that one), Andre 3000 (“Millionaire”), and Terrar (“Good Stuff”).

My favorite might be “Milkshake” because all I could think of was the film There Will be Blood (“Here, if you have a milkshake, and I have a milkshake, and I have a straw…..”).

I think somebody did a parody on Youtube using the song, but I digress.  I wonder if the label is just releasing a best of to try and get some more use out of her since I hear she’s signed to another label for her forthcoming album.

Even so, if you’re a fan or need an instant collection of the artist this collection will do.
