Album Review: Willie Nelson – ‘Moment of Forever’

By Jeff Swindoll Feb 1, 2008, 12:13 GMT

“Give me just one more puff of that worry b gone.”

Country icon Willie Nelson doesn’t have too much to worry about except maybe the IRS, DEA, and when his truck stop in Carl’s Corner, Texas is going to open.  Well, on second thought, maybe he does have his share of troubles so toke away Willie (just watch out for the DEA; tell ‘em it’s for your glaucoma).

Seriously, the icon has released another album and this one is produced by Buddy Cannon and Kenny Chesney for Lost Highway records.  It may be the meeting of the different ages of county since Willie and Chesney duet on the aforementioned “Worry B Gone.”

Willie does some covers of other artist’s songs, such as Dave Matthew’s “Gravedigger,” and Bob Dylan’s “Gotta Serve Somebody,” and does it in his friendly, folksy way.  His version of Randy Newman’s “Louisiana” has added meaning and melancholy as memories of Hurricane Katrina are conjured.

If you recognize “You Don’t Think I’m Funny Anymore” that’s because he previewed it at the end of the Last of the Breed DVD and if you wait around after the last song you’ll be a bonus rendition that appears to be in studio with the laughter of the crew.

Nelson is one of the last of his breed and this is another fine album from a true country superstar.
